When was Stoke suffixed "on-Trent"?[edit]

The article begins describing the riots taking place in "what is now Stoke-on-Trent". Was Stoke not so addressed in or before 1842? (Its Wikipedia article does not say when the "on-Trent" usage became official.)Cloptonson (talk) 12:18, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
