Identity of Goal Scorer[edit]

There is only one source that quotes Macaulay as the scorer. Keith Warsop's work The Early FA Cup Finals and the Southern Amateurs (2004) points out there were other scorers named in other reports. Warsop concludes William Anderson, named in five sports journals' reports, as the scorer, with two of those reports detailing the ball as passed to him successively by Macaulay and Dunn, while another report gave (Philip) Novelli as one who passed the ball towards the goal (considered by Warsop inaccurate, as was that report's stated timing of the goal, which was almost double the eight minutes others credit as shortest time) before being scored by an unnamed player from a "bully". Macaulay is remembered (1937 The Times tribute) as liking to recall his outrunning to pass the ball, without claiming to have scored. Such discrepancies were likely before televisual technology, with the narrative likely to be affected by where the reporter literally stood. I will bring the discussion into the article time permitting.Cloptonson (talk) 14:30, 8 July 2012 (UTC) The information on scorer identity and time of score has been entered, in separate paragraphs, with citation to Warsop.Cloptonson (talk) 15:09, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
