April 1888 games[edit]

The Bentley Historical Library includes the April 1888 games against Notre Dame in its page about the 1888 Football team. However, these two games were played as part of the 1887-1888 academic year with the same nucleus of players. The College Football Data Warehouse has corrected this error by including the April 1888 games in the record of the 1887 Michigan team. For these reasons, the April 1888 games are included in this article, rather than the article on the 1888 Michigan Wolverines football team that played games in the fall semester of 1888. Game against Chicago Harvard School[edit]

Some listings of Michigan's 1887 opponents (including the Bentley Historical Library site and the College Football Data Warehouse) refer to Michigan's third game in 1887 having been against the "Harvard Club" of Chicago. However, contemporaneous press accounts in The Michigan Argonaut and The Chronicle, cited in the article, refer to the opponent as the "Harvard school" of Chicago. The newspaper account from the Warsaw Daily Times, also cited in the article, refers to the opponent as the "Chicago Harvard school." The references to "Harvard School" likely refer to the Chicago Harvard School (also known as the Harvard School), an elite preparatory school established in 1865 on Chicago's South Side by Edward S. Waters, a Harvard University graduate. This same conclusion was reached by author John Kyrk in his book about the Michigan-Notre Dame football rivalry. Accordingly, I have modified the article to list the opponent as the "Chicago Harvard School." Cbl62 (talk) 02:19, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No match between Notre Dame and Michigan from 1888 to 1942[edit]

I have an issue with the statement in the last paragraph of the 1888 Notre Dame-Michigan game, I do not know what Michigan archives say, but Notre Dame archives list games in 1898 (Oct 23), 1899 (Oct 18), 1900 (Nov 17), 1902 (Oct 8), 1908 (Oct 17) and 1909 (Nov 6).

  • Those games were all played in Ann Arbor.
