Owen's account[edit]

Our quotation of Owen also appears at ESPN Classic in "Great Subway Series moments" (November 19, 2003)[1] — one year before this page was created. (The account of game four, with quotation, was added only in March 2011.[2])

A shorter and different quotation of what "Owen said that day", along with some quotations "as the years went by", appears at New York Daily News in "Ball Passed, Memory Stays. Owen Lives on in Dodger Lore" (July 20, 2005).[3]

Next-day coverage by the Daily News is one likely source for a contemporary quotation. --P64 (talk) 20:59, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mickey Owen had died 2005-07-13, one week before that Daily News article. Our biography gives one obituary ref, namely the New York Sun "Mickey Owen, Dodgers Catcher of 1940s, Dies at 89" (July 15, 2005).[4]
