Major hurricanes[edit]

Hmm. perhaps not 1917 and 1919 have 1 or 2 major hurricanes and no cat 1 or 2 hurricanes so their proportion is 100%. crandles 13:26, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Money question[edit]

Hi.

Good question and good catch. The reference for Carla is incorrect. I got the total of $391.6 million from the monthly weather review located here. I will fix Carla accordingly. Hurricanehink 19:51, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Strongest storm[edit]

I'm a proponent of listing just one storm as the strongest. For 1958, I cut Cleo (a nominal cat5) and kept only Helene (which had much lower pressure readings). However, for this 1961 season I see no criteria for choosing between strengths of Hattie or Carla. Both have incomplete pressure readings, but both have pressures from their peak intensities and Hattie's is lower. I had the same problem with my hurricane archive. NOAA usually goes by pressure, so that's probably what we should go by, when reliable readings are available. -- §HurricaneERIC§Damagesarchive 02:49, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, the archived reports in NHC's website also contain three radar images of Tropical Storm Six. I hesitate to pick these up because of the fact that they are archived. The only other storm picture in these archives is a gapped picture of Hurricane Dora. Jake52

  • Neat (and timely) opening sentence!! Might I suggesting using this source? Right now, it has the March 2011 as the date (for the season summary part where you properly ref it).

  • " It was an average season" - this directly contradicts the opening sentence.

  • "Debbie then brushed Ireland as a Category 1 hurricane shortly before becoming extratropical. " - that suggests it struck Ireland while tropical, which contradicts the main article

  • "It was an above average season in which eleven tropical depressions formed" - do you know that there were no TD's that weren't in HURDAT?
  • Does HURDAT really prove that the unnamed TS "initially went unnoticed"? I'd like more confirmation.
  • "Later that day, the final system, Tropical Storm Inga..." - this implies Inga formed on the 8th. Is that right?
  • " Subtropical cyclones, such as the first storm, are excluded from the total" - Anna was subtropical?

  • How close did Betsy pass near Bermuda?
  • " became a major hurricane after reaching Category 3 intensity" - but MH = C3, so that's redundant
  • How strong was Carla at landfall?
  • Why don't you include Carla's ET history? For that matter, ditto with Betsy, and probably other storms.
  • Any Canada impact for Carla? What about Frances?

Re-Analysis?[edit]

I have noticed the season summary map has the 2017 re-analysis tracks, but the individual storm maps do not. Why is this? I have noticed the same thing with the 1962 and 1963 seasons. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.144.9.204 (talk) 20:40, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hattie replaced with Holly?[edit]

I noticed that the article for Carla states that the name was replaced with Carol in 1965. I know that Donna (1960) says it was replaced with Dora, so I assume that was the first name to be replaced directly, and from thereon as i mentioned Carla with Carol, Flora (1963) with Fern, Cleo (1964) with Candy, Dora (1964) with Dolly, Hilda (1964) with Hannah, and Betsy (1965) with Blanche. It doesn’t say if any name replaced Hattie but i do know the H name for 1965 was Holly so I was wondering if it would be accurate to say Hattie was replaced with Holly? I only ask because while the rest of the storms i mentioned have replacements named, I haven’t seen any sources which state they were directly replaced so I assume those are just assumptions made based on the rotating lists of the time. I went and updated 1960 through 1965 so far due to the fact that either the season articles or individual storm articles for Donna, Carla, Flora, Cleo, Dora, Hilda, and Betsy indicate names being retired and replaced, except for Hattie which i mentioned Holly as the replacement for the 1965 season. Basically i made the articles match since it was either the season article that mentioned it or the individual storm article.OWGNicholas (talk) 22:24, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
