Wilt's big year[edit]

I have heard some suggest, or loudly brag, that Shaquille O'Neal was better, that Russell and Kareem were better, maybe others too. Wilt had half a foot on the whole sport, some said, and still lost. How could such a great athlete lose? Basketball is a team sport. Your five and their five. Great players can elevate a team, no doubt. But great teams win. This is the lesson of the 60s in the NBA. Give Wilt a similar club to what Boston had and what happened? He dominated and so did his team. Decades later people talk about triple doubles. Chamberlain may have had 50 of them this year alone. Show me another seven footer who could match that. Blocks were not kept as an offical stat. Russell was more famous for them. Wilt had more. Name that stat catagory he did not impact. No player ever did more. In a way, he deserved a title as a thank you. Wilt and this team still stand as a rare powerhouse 40 years later.
