Frankie Lucas amazing feat[edit]

[Frankie Lucas] - One man and his country. In the 1974 British Commonwealth Games a lone competitor representing the small island of Saint Vincent won the Gold medal in the Middleweight division of the boxing tournament. Frankie Lucas the British ABA champion aged 20 was overlooked for the England team, for whom he had represented a number of times. Frank then represented Saint Vincent the island he had left for England when he was just 6 years of age. Frankie was the only participant representing Saint Vincent in any sport and carried the flag on his own during the opening and closing ceremonies.

Proposed merge[edit]

See Talk:All-time medal tally of Commonwealth Games for discussion on this and other related merges. Kevin 05:09, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Number of Athletes[edit]

The number of competitors was altered from 1274 to 1276 (and 372 officials) as given in the Official History page 385, composition of teams. The CGF website says 1276 too, not 1274! NB: the Official History page 398 on medical services gives 1269 and 355 officials! And 997 news media personnel and 1096 village staff; grand total 3717. Popular image[edit]

The statement that "The 1974 Christchurch Games still eclipses Auckland's 1990 games in the New Zealand mindset as the nation's favorite international multi-sport hosted event. Even more so now that the popular QEII Park was severely damaged beyond viable repair by a devastating earthquake that destroyed much of the city in February 2011" would seem to be simply opinion and POV. It is something which probably cannot be verified, and is unencyclopaedic. I recommend removal of the statement.

Incidentally, QEII Park has not been destroyed. The stadium has been severely damaged, and park remains intact.
