politics[edit]

The lead paragraph says the 1980s was marked in HK history by politics etc. There were only 2 sentences in the paragraph now. Surely there are more to be discussed. Sino-British Joint Declaration, BN(O), headlines about the governors, one of them passed away while in office didn't he. These are just some of the topics to explore. --Kvasir 05:13, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Almost forgot, what about the Vietnamese boat people issues that dominated the headlines. Zero mention of it right now. --Kvasir 05:04, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sino-British Declaration[edit]

Shouldn't something be mentioned about how the British had initially wanted to negotiate for an extension on the lease to the New Territories? Kowloon and HK Island were technically British territory permanently, but seeing that New Territories was such an integrated part of HK, and how Kowloon and HK Island were indefensible against a possible Chinese invasion without New Territories as a buffer, the UK has no choice but to give up HK altogether. Deng Xiaoping was at the negotiations himself and he adamant in reclaiming New Territories as Chinese territory. Actually, more needs to be mentioned about the signing of the Sino-British Declaration altogether, and HKers' reactions to the negotation and the declaration. That event was basically the most influential event in modern HK history. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 15:51, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The details of the SBJD should belong to its own article. There is already mention about the SBJD and its significance to the 80s in HK. --Kvasir 05:02, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The basic structure of the article is there, though information is currently scarce. This is a topic of high importance, as the 1980's were an important decade for HK. --Danaman5 17:07, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This page is now fixed up along with the imperial, colonial, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s. The 90s is next. There was definitely alot of info missing. Benjwong 06:08, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
