Migrating references to shortened footnotes[edit]

Hello all,

The current reference section, while accurate, currently has over 100 inline citations for about 5 different works. I'm thinking that using shortened footnotes would simplify this quite a bit. Also, I'm willing to do it, but would like to get a consensus on the subject before moving forward.
