You don't remember the Channel Lake hearings in the Legislature's Crown Corporations Commitee, including the calling of a number of witnesses including Jack Messer, Laurie Portigal, etc., concerning the affairs leading to the botched sale of Channel Lake Petroleum and the subsequent dismissal (with $300k severance) granted to Jack Messer, a NDP political appointment?

It was front-page news in Saskatchewan in 1998/99 and the words, "Channel Lake" will yield a lot of hits on www.legassembly.sk.ca/Hansard . And if you search Google (or your favourite search engine) for the old Saskatchewan Party website, you will see many press releases.

Also, in 1998, there was another scandal at SaskPower that figured into the election, concerning the locking out of utility workers, and then actually legislating them back to work. These were all election issues, and were some of the major reasons behind the NDP only winning a minority of members in 1999.

Just a minor nit as well -- "Some New Democrats who were unhappy with the cautious government of Roy Romanow had left the party to form the New Green Alliance, an environmentalist party. This party failed to make a significant impact, winning only 1% of the popular vote, and no seats in the legislature." is loaded with POV. Politics (and all articles relating to it) intrinsically must contain at least some POV, so obviously a deletion isn't in order, but obviously caution must be exercised.

  • I agree that this passage should probably be reworded. CJCurrie 02:57, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
