Not really. 1-2+4-8... is a divergent geometric series, and 1-2+3-4... is not, so that gives them quite different properties. Merging them would create confusion - it would be like merging bat into whale because they are both mammals. I disagree with this merge proposal. Gandalf61 09:50, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

I just proved that 1 - 2 + 4 - 8 + ... equals 1/3

It's here:

s = 1 - 2 + 4 - 8 + ...
s = 1 - 2(1 - 2 + 4 - 8 +...)
s = 1 - 2s
3s = 1
s = 1/3
