Survivors[edit]

Um, a couple things do not make sense, reading the translated On Board Mechanics account, it says "the hostess asked him to put on a seatbelt" How come there is no mention of the Flight attendant as a fatality. It also says the Flight engineer woke up from his coma, are the Mechanic and engineer two different people? Because from the description, I fell in the mud and was able to contemplate the flames consuming the aircraft, it doesn't sound like that guy was in a coma at all. --75.154.108.80 22:13, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The IP editor has a point. The story says 3 were on the plane: a pilot, co-pilot and engineer. It then goes on to quote a "mechanic". Is this the same as the engineer? The "mechanic"says that there was a hostess/stewardess on the plane, but in the info box there is no mention of a flight attendant. Further, the article implies that all crew was Russian, yet the name of the "mechanic is not Russian, and he is speaking French, the language of the Congo. Please clarify all this messiness. According to AvioNews, there were five crew members of which three were Russian while the surviving mechanic/flight engineer was a Congolese man. I updated the article with this information. The casualty figures are still a mystery as I am yet to find a reliable number for the number of passengers on the plane. In any case, the figure should raise to at least 69 (49 on the ground + 16 passengers in the flight manifest + 4 crew members), unless I'm missing something? --Jopo 12:41, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds about right, Jopo, though I think there would be a crew of five, with the flight attendent included. Thank you for updating the article. I did a little work on it, but have a million other things I could be doing here, without adding another article to my editing list. It is really improved since earlier today. For the record, it doesnt't have to be perecrt, but we can at leats say "news reports are conflicting and inform,ation is not complete at thius time" or some such blather. Recent crashes in DRC[edit]

There are no individual articles yet, but the 2007_in_aviation lists entries for crashes in the DRC on May 17, June 21, June 28, August 26, ~~September 5, September 6, September 9,~~ September 24. Most involve overloaded STOL twin turboprops with shady ownership flying undeclared passengers on supposed cargo flights, but yet all of the coverage seems to focus on the fact that they are mostly old Antonovs.LeadSongDog 22:22, 9 October 2007 (UTC) ~~:An uncannily similar string of September crashes occurred in 2005 according to CIDI LeadSongDog 23:14, 9 October 2007 (UTC)~~The Sept 5,6,9 events were filed against the wrong year.
