Additions to article

You might want to add a section on they compared to the rest of the league in all regards, defense, offense, interceptions, etc.. Green Squares (talk) 21:34, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Good idea, ask on the above NFL project. TomCat4680 (talk) 19:11, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
Actually the NFC North chart proves that. TomCat4680 (talk) 15:02, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

repetitions

Seems to be a lot of repetitions of the ilk of "With yet another loss, Detroit fell to 0-#" at the end of a game report. It's clear from the start of the article that they didn't manage to win a game, so is this really useful? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.170.169.227 (talk) 15:00, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

ya it is kind of unneccessary. I told the guy that writes them how to write better summaries but he never responded.TomCat4680 (talk) 19:34, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

notable reactions (plural!)

This article as a whole was quite a disappointment to me. Not a record-breaking disappointment, necessarily, but a disappointment nonetheless. There is only one "notable reaction" in the article at present. Moreover, the article is currently structured on a game by game basis. In the whole huge page, apart from the quote from the radio announcer, there is only one paragraph of analysis of the season as a whole. This season is notably bad. I want to know more about the season, as opposed to the individual games. Notably, how did the team go from winning all of its preseason games to losing all the regular season games? Is there evidence that some kind of losing mentality had swept into the team? When did it take hold? Did players start to turn the ball over more often as they lost confidence? Really, what was the deal with this season? I think more than one paragraph of discussion is in order here, especially for such a long page. As it stands, this page seems like an overgrown stub... Well that seems pretty harsh. If you want to know how terrible they were, you should have watched the games. If you live outside of Michigan you have gotten NFL Sunday Ticket. You should listen to WXYT-FM where they're discussed for 12 hours every single day. Read any Michigan newspaper on a daily basis, most useful would be The Detroit News and The Detroit Free Press. You should have watched The Ford Lions Report. You should go to The NFL.com video player and type in 2008 Lions. You should have looked for anything about them on NFL Network, ESPN, CNN, MSNBC, FOX News Channel. Or watch The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Turn on the 2009 NFL Draft today, you'll see plenty of analysis, highlights, reactions etc. especially about the #1 overall pick. What more do you want? This is encyclopedia, a collection of facts. Its best to try and keep the analysis out of it as much as possible. TomCat4680 (talk) 05:18, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Repeats way too much

Along with what the other person stated on this subject, once the summaries hit week 7, they just start using the a very similar starting sentence.

It goes: Still searching for their first win Still trying to acquire their first win of the year Still trying to get their first win of the season Still trying to get their first win of the season Still looking for their first win of the season Still trying to get their first win of the season Still looking for their first win of the season Still trying to acquire their first win of the season Still looking for their first win Still trying to get their first win of the season

I mean, I think by reading the article that you understand that they never got that first win. Whoever wrote this was clearly lazy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.141.174.204 (talk) 03:03, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

I think the kid is like 16 who did them. He wants to be a sportswriter and he's practicing. TomCat4680 (talk) 03:08, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
I added some tags addressing the issues mentioned. For something by a professional writer just click the game recap external links in the schedules. TomCat4680 (talk) 03:20, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
I copyedited it. Check out what thespread.com said about the Falcons. TomCat4680 (talk) 18:30, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Edits

I removed references to modes of travel and directions (almost all team travel by NFL teams, then as now, are by air, and the general geography of the US is obvious to NFL fans). "Flying over Lake Michigan" is irrelevant to a road loss in Minnesota; Lake Michigan had nothing to do with the loss, the weak talent and incompetent coaching (or even bad luck) of the putrid 2008 Lions proving the cause of the team's gridiron failure. The Lions would have lost that game had they chosen to divert the team flight through the Chicago area or over Lake Superior. "Down south to the Georgia Dome" is redundant, as it is generally well known that the Georgia Dome is in Atlanta and that Atlanta is to the south of Detroit.

Travel directions would be relevant only if a game had been diverted somewhere other than the usual venue for the home team -- such as playing a game in Rochester or Tulsa.Pbrower2a (talk) 15:56, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
