Neutrality disputed[edit]

"New Orleans is a city that prides itself with control of larger crowds and this event will be no different."

Unless you are from the future, or can otherwise see the outcome of the 2008 All-Star weekend, there is no way to say that this event will be successfully controlled.

Yao Ming China[edit]

"This almost guaranteed that he won't start as Yao Ming has the entire nation of China backing him."

I find that this statement is inaccurate. Yao Ming is popular everywhere. He does not win the voting because of the Chinese people. In fact, in the past when he has gone head to head in voting against Shaq, he loses on the internet voting, which is where all the Chinese votes are supposed to come from. Where he wins is the ballot voting in Arenas and Foot Lockers. So unless all these Chinese people are flying in to NBA games and shoe retailers, Yao Ming winning has nothing to do with "Chinese People", but rather people in general.

I propose this sentence be changed to This almost guaranteed that he will start, as Yao Ming is one of the most popular athletes in the NBA and has started in the game every year since he joined the NBA. Big Wang (talk) 05:10, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

anyways, TD had more votes than yao for a while and now is only 9,000 behind, so inaccurate indeed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.12.135.185 (talk) 22:58, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"first All-Star game since Katrina"[edit]

I don't see the point of the sentence, "The event will mark the first All-Star Game in any of the professional sporting leagues to be played in New Orleans after the Hurricane Katrina disaster."

The NHL/MLB wouldn't play in New Orleans anyway (no teams/affiliated venues), the NFL always plays in Hawaii.

It should be rewritten to something like "This is the first major professional sporting event (outside of regular season games) to take place in New Orleans since the Katrina disaster", I think that was the point being made. Pxlt (talk) 21:30, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good. Chris! ct 23:03, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I guess that revised sentence is still technically incorrect. The Saints hosted a playoff game in the Superdome in 06. I don't know how to rephrase without making it unwieldy. Suggestions? Pxlt (talk) 03:31, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just came in here to comment on that. My suggestion is to delete it. It's just unneeded. The first major sporting even was the MNF game against the Falcons, and the first non-regular season game was the Saints' playoff game. I guess if you really need to keep the sentence you could say it's the first non-regular season game at the New Orleans Arena. 151.197.161.232 (talk) 16:28, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Records Set or Broken Section[edit]

Please do not remove this section without good reason. All of the records are relevant to the game, and nessessary for future reference. Zorgon (talk) 18:45, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Was HORSE not played at All-Star Weekends going back to the 70s? There is a Youtube Video of Pete Maravich winning a HORSE contest in the 70s. This could be a return rather than the first time. Needs more investigation. 121.44.19.197 (talk) 09:43, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

3 point contest[edit]

Is there a 3-point shootout this year? If so, who are the contestants? If not, we should probably mention this is the first in many years without one.--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back (talk) 05:12, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Caron Butler[edit]

There's a mention of Garnett's injury - anybody know if Caron Butler's injury is going to affect his standing in the game? CopaceticThought (talk) 05:10, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Total mess[edit]

Some parts (especially the rosters) are a mess. Information is splayed everywhere, there is redundancy, the whole thing needs a clean-up. I'll get to it if I have time, but I'm rather busy and the ASG is fast approaching. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.115.251.217 (talk) 22:13, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
