Neutrality[edit]

i have to challenge the neutrality of this page... as it strongly adopts the algerian side of the dispute!!

you don't mention that Egypt scored 1 goal in Algeria, when they lose 3-1, before they win Algeria in Egypt 2-0, and FIFA doesn't use the (Away goals rule) in the time that they use it in 2006 qualification in Africa and in 2010 when Bahrain crossed Saudi Arabia by 2-2, or when Slovenia crossed Russia 2-2 also. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.234.60.81 (talk) 11:59, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Naming of page[edit]

There are numerous global events which are called a 'World Cup'. This article, however, is only in relation to events surrounding a World Cup organised by FIFA. More specifically, it is about the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification. To include all that in the title might not be ideal. At the moment, though, the title only refers to it being a "World Cup", and I definitely feel that the acronym 'FIFA' should be included at least in some way. If anything this should be titled Algeria and Egypt Football Rivalry. Mexico and United States football rivalry, Argentina and Brazil football rivalry, Germany and Netherlands football rivalry, and England and Germany football rivalry are all similar articles. Football is the focus but there is of course underlying political tensions. Equating it to only World Cup prelims seems weird when sources for the Africa Cup of Nations and presumably others can be expanded upon.Cptnono (talk) 12:22, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with your arguments, except that the matches referred to in this article are all over a short period of time, so that wouldn't really compare to the 'rivalry' articles which you have cited as examples. I think that the best solution would be to name the page 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification - CAF Third Round Group C tiebreaking play-off. The article could then have the Omdurman match as its focus, with the other matches still featured extensively in a 'background' section as well as the existing subsequent events section. That should then clear up the question over whether this article is about a specific event, or an entire history of football rivalry. RedvBlue 14:40, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I strongly disagree with the last suggestion. Sometimes discussion of an article's title can lead to fruitful re-examination of what the core concept under discussion is, where the article should be centred, what needs expansion and what needs refactoring out to some other article. But I don't think it would be right to emphasise one of the two key matches over the other in order to fit into a more definite title: that's the tail wagging the dog. As to alternative titles, I'm not convinced of the need for a change. I could live with "2009 Egypt–Algeria FIFA World Cup dispute". jnestorius(talk) 22:25, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mubarak Al Misriyin[edit]

"On 1 December, al-Ahram reported that a village in New Valley Governorate had applied to change its name from al-Jaza'ir ("Algeria") to Mubarak al-misriyin ("[Hosni] Mubarak for Egyptians").[64]"

I'd like to confirm the meaning behind the name. Because in Arabic, "mubarak" actually means "congratulations" or "congratulated". So this name actually means "Congratulations for the Egyptians" the way I understand it. But I might be wrong. UltimateDarkloid (talk) 12:24, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
