Significant After Effects

The extratropical remnants of Typhoon Melor made a highly unusual appearance in California, producing record rains and high winds, and breaking a drought for many regions. They even merited an image on NOAA's significant imagery page. Is there really a hard and fast rule about mentioning such things? Where else could they be mentioned in better context? Tmangray (talk) 01:00, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

I note as precedent that the 1962 Typhoon season page which includes Typhoon Freda makes ample and appropriate reference to the visitation of its extratropical remnants to the West Coast of the US. Tmangray (talk) 01:05, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

The extratropical remnants of Typhoon Melor did not make an appeareance in California. The JMA who are the offical warning center in this region say they dissipated on October 11. Also i believe that Cyclonebiskit (talk · contribs) made a quick article on the acctual LPA that affected California.Jason Rees (talk) 01:22, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
The NWS reported otherwise during the event as recounted in the news media, and as noted aboove re: NOAA's significant imagery. Perhaps the matter turns on a technicality regarding the fate of the respective surface low. Clearly though, SOME form of remnant from Melor affected California such as added energy to the subtropical jet and abundant tropical moisture. Is it really necessary to cutoff information about this? Tmangray (talk) 01:56, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
After double checking my facts ive found this out. Typhoon Freda acctully made landfall as an extratropical system. However Melor dissipated before even leaving the Western Pacific.[1] The energy leftover from Melor was absorbed by a developing LPA and this LPA was the LPA that made landfall on california and broke the records not melor.[2] So thus the damage in california cant count for Melor.Jason Rees (talk) 03:05, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Retired storms

The retired storm names are in: Morakot, Parma, and Ketsana. Replacement names will be announced after the 2011 Typhoon committee meeting.Jason Rees (talk) 03:00, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

What about Fengshen? --Priyanka 03:15, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
I can only assume not retired.Jason Rees (talk) 03:16, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
They won't. In the 2008 typhoon season article, it is already mentioned that although "Frank" (its PAGASA name) will be retired, the international codename will not, which is odd considering that the MV Princess of the Stars sinking was not the only effect of Fengshen in my country. 112.203.167.185 (talk) 11:43, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Retired names

Will we still add a section within "Storm names" which list the retired typhoon names? 112.203.167.185 (talk) 11:40, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

I dont see the need to, this article is too large as it is. But what might be better is too work the storm names into a table and having the details to the side of the table.Jason Rees (talk) 15:04, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Private?

It is weird that in this article, Typhoon Chan-Hom has no info in this article. I have edited that: copy and paste many times. I just want to figure out the mystery behind it.--Sir Jazer 13 (talk) 10:16, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

The stuff you are copying and pasting is false information. Now we have the JTWC BT i will get on with writing it up.Jason Rees (talk) 15:45, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
Jason Rees, when you blank sections like that, only do it when you know you'll finish it within a day. That section has remained blank since December 6, 2009, leading to a very useless section on the storm. I've restored the text prior to your removal of it. Please do not remove it again until you have made a complete rewrite of it. Cheers, Cyclonebiskit (talk) 17:24, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
Comment - surely a blank section is of more use than a badly written section full of unverifiable and false information.Jason Rees (talk) 17:43, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
Comment - I see. The first paragraph of the article is certified UNSOURCED. --Sir Jazer 13 (talk) 08:33, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Nothing needs sourcing there and per WP:Lead the first paragraph never gets referenced. Jason Rees (talk) 16:04, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Apparently, thanks to an edit, it now says it is the equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane, is this true? And if so, can the track be updated to show where it was cat 5? 112.203.197.229 (talk) 08:01, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Looks like the JTWC upgraded it in the Best Track:

-- RattleMan 08:09, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
Now can the track be updated to reflect this? 112.203.197.229 (talk) 08:36, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
The person who had the tracks programme hasnt got it anymore. Im personally looking into getting the programme that does them but in the interm i have asked a user who has the programme to take a look.Jason Rees (talk) 17:12, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
Done.--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 20:39, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Typhoon Nida

User:Jason Rees made a draft article for Typhoon Nida sometime ago and though he stopped on it sometime ago, the article looks pretty good, probably good enough to be turned into an article. So can it be published now? 112.203.184.112 (talk) 12:55, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Season Effects Table

What happened to the season effects table? There were only about 6 storms listed. Rosalina2427 (talk) 17:49, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Missed tropical depression

This tropical depression is monitored by HKO and it isn't shown. Did JMA monitor it as well? Source: http://www.weather.gov.hk/publica/tc/tc2009/english/track_td1123.htm
