RSL or KC[edit]

do we have a citable source on RSL automatically qualifying? or is that just an assumption too? the system for qualification changes all the time. last year the conferences had an even number of teams; this year there's more teams in the west. even though TFC doesnt compete, they still affect the standings.

we can wait on listing the teams, or cite various outlets' speculations, or enumerate the possible methods for determining who plays in when. when i changed the page originally it had RSL as qualified, but 2009 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup qualification had RSL as playing in against seattle. Classification of teams[edit]

Should we be classifying teams in the tournament based on the league they participate in, or how they qualified? For example, Atlanta FC is listed as "USASA", because they qualified through the USASA tournament. Should they be listed as that, or as NPSL, given that they play in that league?

The NPSL teams qualify through the USASA Region tournaments, so I have them down as USASA teams. If the NPSL had its own way of qualifying then they should be classified as such, but since they do go through the USASA, they should be noted as such, in my opinion. Brackets[edit]

They are sort of hard to read, especially in the first rounds. I gonna create a table for each round, as in other competitions like UEFA CL or Copa Libertadores, which are much easier to deal with. 06:57, 10 July 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by WiJG? (talkcontribs)

    • I don't think they're hard to read at all. I think they look perfectly fine. --JonBroxton (talk) 16:24, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

City codes[edit]

The city codes came across broken to me. There are tons of codes used everyda7y in business and flight and a couple jumped out at me. The use of these codes might be disputed. Assuming they are not

  • Portland is always PDX and not POR from my experience
  • Austin was not the first thing I thought of with AUS. Maybe it is the international thing of the sport but thought I would mention it.
  • LYN, OCC, ORC are bound to cause confussion if you are not familiar

No "codes" for cities should be there at all: the players play for clubs, not cities, so name the club rather than giving a code for the city in which the club is based. And either remove the flags, or at least make them flagathlete rather than flagicon: readers should not need knowledge of Caribbean and African flags to read the article. Kevin McE (talk) 00:14, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The codes aren't for cities, they are abbreviations for clubs to make the column formatting work. Just move your mouse over the link and poof! Up pops the club name. Very easy. But, that's by the by. If there's a better way of indicating which club the player plays for, while maintaining the column formatting, please change it! --JonBroxton (talk) 00:45, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Seeding/flags/article format[edit]

The format for the US Open Cup article has been very well established over the years. To change it without proper consensus for the community is against the spirit of Wikipedia. If you think all of those changes are justified, discuss the matter here. Che84 (talk) 06:56, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
