Merging this article back into any other article does not make any sense. India is a very large country, the number of deaths is starting to jump, and it has faced possibly more panick over swine flu than any other country since May. Even if that is not so, there is clear panick, and all indications are things will get more interesting before they quiet down.Johnpacklambert (talk) 14:09, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In the line - "The only known drug to work against H1N1(Tamiflu) was not sold over the counter. " - what does "counter" mean? Can you elaborate in the Wikipedia article? - SridharRatnakumar (talk) 03:07, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The "counter" here is Counter (furniture). The sentence means that the drug Tamiflu was not sold in general medical stores, to prevent the virus from developing antibiotic resistance due to excessive use. —SpaceFlight89 04:14, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In the U.S., a prescription is required for anyone to buy medicine such as Tamiflu. Are such medicines normally sold to anyone with no prescription needed in India? Timeline and increasing death toll[edit]

According to 2009 flu pandemic table August 2009 and this article, the number of deaths from H1N1 in India slightly more than doubled from 64 on August 26 to 131 on September 7, a 12 day period. This appears to be a faster time of doubling than in any other country with this many total deaths. Has the India health ministry or World Health Organization addressed the apparent rapid increase in the death toll in India? If the earlier total understated the actual number (deaths attributed to other causes) that could cause the doubling rate to look shorter than it is. A timeline section, such as is in 2009 flu pandemic in Argentina would improve the article and help in understanding the rate of increase in mortality. The number of confirmed cases will likely cease to be meaningful as the authorities in some other countries stopped testing every suspected case after it became widespread. I have been following death rate(deaths against confirmed cases) in India, and even though it is the highest in Asia, it is definitely lesser than that of Latin American Countries and Ukraine. Is there any explanation why the death rate is high in Latin American Countries? India is hit by shortage of diagnostic centers. J mareeswaran (talk) 15:29, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
