Qualifying[edit]

Would a qualifying info section (like I started last season) be desirable here on the talk page, or a waste of time/space? Something like below (maybe some one could pretty it up, I don't have the time at the moment to fidget with it)

Gecko G (talk)

I like the qualifying info as displayed on other tournaments (such as the 2011 World Club Cup and others). I threw up a sample just to see what it might look like here (though someone more wiki-proficient could undoutably make one much nicer looking). Would we want something like that on the main article? Here's what I've been able to find on the remaining spots:

Champions League 2010-11 remaining spots:

Central American Qualifying[edit]

Costa Rica Costa Rica: 2 spots Verano 2010: Starts Jan 17th

El Salvador El Salvador: Clausura 2010: Starts Jan 10th

Guatemala Guatelmala:

  • Clausura 2010: TBD

Honduras Honduras: Clausura 2010: TBD, starts Jan 30th

Panama Panama: Apertura 2010: Starts Jan 15th

Belize Belize: 1 spot, assuming they can pass the stadium requirements this time.

Method of qualification unclear. The posibile teams would seem to include: Hankook Verdes as regular season winner for both the Spring & Fall seasons, Nizhee Corozal as the winner of the Spring playoff, or Belize Defense Force as the winner of the Fall playoff.

A new format this season, and some controversy. There was a Spring season with 12 teams split into two geographical zones (north & South) with no cross zone matches (10 match season). The top team of the regular season was Hankook Verdes of the Southern Zone (FC Belize was the top team of the Northern Zone). The top 4 from each zone advanced to the combined playoffs. Nizhee Corozal won the final over Hankook Verdes United. The fall season then had a single table with 7 (6, after one team withdrew due to financial reasons) teams. The 7 teams competing in the Fall appear to have no correlation to finishing position in the spring season, and it was apparently scheduled to be a 12 round season. However, in the 5th round, Nizhee Corazal (to that point undefeated) & Hankook Verdes (2 wins, 2 ties at that point) were playing, Nizhee was winning 1-0, and Hankook Verdes walked off. Instead of being considered abandoned, the result stood. In protest Nizhee withdrew (whether from the season or from the entire league is not clear). Hankook ended up winning (the drastically shortened - 8 game's) season, but were eliminated on PKs in the Semifinal. The finals are currently between Belize Defense Force & FC Belize (Nov. 29th & Dec. 6th).

Nicaragua Nicaragua: 1 spot, assuming they can pass the stadium requirements this time.

winner of playoff between the Apertura (CD Walter Ferreti) and Clasura champions will get the spot, though another source claims that of the two season winners the spot will go to the one with the better aggregate record. Clausura starts Jan 10th

North American Qualifying[edit]

Mexico Mexico:

  • Apertura 2009: Both semifinalists qualify: Cruz Azul & Monterrey qualified.
  • Mexico Clausura 2010: Starts Jan 16th
  • sidenote: Assuming SuperLiga qualification is the same as in the previous season, then Toluca, Pachuca, Morelia, & América are qualified for at least the SuperLiga, if not the Champions League. If one or more of those teams qualify for the Champions League, then SuperLiga spots will go to the following teams in the following order: 1) Puebla, 2) Santos Laguna. If a team's participation in the 2010 Copa Libertadores preculdes them from the SuperLiga (I don't think it does), the the list of potentials (depending upon the outcome of the InterLiga) continues thusly: 3) UNAM, 4) UAG, 5) Chiapas.

United States USA: All spots finalised

Canada Canada: 2010 Canadian Championship: To be contested between Montreal_Impact, Toronto (MLS), & Vancouver Whitecaps unless the dispute between the breakaway NASL and the USL somehow causes a change.

Caribbean Qualifying[edit]

  • Carribbean: CFU Club Championship 2010: TBD

Couple things...[edit]

Hey all,
Couple things...

  • Curious: why are the match times in the subpages (preliminary stage, group stage, etc) all in the same time zone? Wouldn't it be beneficial to have it in local time?
  • Reminder: keep the date format constant throughout the article, i.e. format "Jan 1" all around.

That's it. Cheers. Digirami (talk) 22:42, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Editing group standings[edit]

Hi, folks. I just edited RSL's group because I watched that match. Everything seems OK, except 1) not sure whether TFC or RSL would come first, and 2) I seem not to be using the right type of dash. Any help with those things appreciated. Be bold! 68.107.8.147 (talk) 04:18, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Note on Puerto Rico Islanders[edit]

Please someone should explain why Puerto Rico Islanders represents Puerto Rico if they play in the USA and not in Puerto Rico. It's very unusual that a club represents a federation they don't belong to. Ipsumesse (talk) 05:58, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

... they play in San Juan. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.57.24.182 (talk) 04:07, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
