Merger proposal[edit]

I created this page because it covers the election of council members, not just the mayor. That, and that's how the articles were laid out for the last election. But now I'm not so sure.

I'm proposing the merger of Toronto mayoral election, 2014 into this article for the following reasons:

It is the same thing; one election, just two ballots.
The issues in an election are generally the same at the level of Mayor and council-as-a-body. I believe any divergence between mayoral and local ward issues could be accommodated for in one article without making it ridiculously cluttered or long. Merging the two would make for one stronger, more comprehensive article.
If we cannot summarize mayoral positions well enough and it gets lengthy and listy like it is in Toronto mayoral election, 2010, platform details could be accommodated in a separate article along the lines of Election platforms in the Toronto mayoral election, 2014. As it stands now, I believe the information can be easily summarized in the table here.

Please discuss this below, I wish to hear your feedback. Based on how this discussion goes, maybe we can also discuss merging Toronto mayoral election, 2010 and Toronto municipal election, 2010. Regards. --Natural R_X 17:37, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose Based on the precedent set with other elections where the two articles are separate (e.g. Toronto mayoral election, 2010) and the international notoriety in the media, and so forth of Rob Ford and therefore the election, I think the two articles are appropriate. Merging the two might bloat into a single article that would be too long and too dense to navigate and/or read effectively. CaffeinAddict (talk) 18:55, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose - We don't need to merge everything into mega-articles. Even with my large-screen home computer it is easier to read individual pages than scrolling down and down and down and down. Oppose as above. At every level imaginable, the mayoral race will be much, much, much more thoroughly covered, and would be even if the incumbent wasn't internationally infamous in his own right. Candidates Bios[edit]

There seems to be a lot of IP entries in various candidates' bios. Some of them could be interpreted as controversial. I cn'd some better source'd others. But ultimately, we should have this information removed unless properly sourced.--Truther2012 (talk) 20:33, 16 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Candidate Bio Information would be the kind of thing you could include if there was a source. Standard Format for Tables on this page[edit]

Every Ward seems to have a different format for the tables which contain the results and other information. I propose the following standards to be applied to each Ward in this list:

Title: The Title at each ward should be "Ward ## - Name"
Multiple Tables in a ward should be combined into one. For example, some wards have one table for election results, and another listing Bio & Policies. Those should be combined into a single table per ward.
Order: Some tables are sorted alphabetically, others by number of votes. I recommend that the single table in each ward be sorted by number of votes (and then by last name if needed to break a tie, until the tie was for the winner and broken in another way, in which case the winner should be listed first)
% of votes should be listed to 2 decimal places, except in cases where two numbers that appear the same would be differentiated by additional decimal places.
Some tables have names listed with last names first, others with first names first (and in a few cases, both in one table). If the primary sort for each table is to be number of votes, putting the last name first is not required, and therefore it makes more sense to me to put the first name first.
Bio & policies: If a candidate is the incumbent, this should be noted first in this field. If the candidate is endorsed by any of the major newspapers or important people, this can also be noted here. Can also include notes about previous employment and view on important issues. I would add that information should be added to the bio line for each candidate (where known) if the person is related to another famous person or politician. (For example, Ford, Holyday, Cressy, Layton, Shiner, Colle, Campbell, Nunziata, the other Nunziata, Carmichael-Greb, Matlow, etc.
