transfers[edit]

The transfers are not correct. Some were free transfers while others were from another team. Also, none listed as of today's date happened in the 2015 season and so should not be listed. Walter Görlitz (talk) 04:41, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A little unfair, I think. This is a brand new club, and as such is not technically part of the 2014 season. As far as NYCFC are concerned, the entirety of the 2014 calendar year is just 2015's pre-season. If we don't include these transfers here, then we will be forced to disavow all knowledge of the transfers entirely, as there is certainly not going to be a "2014 New York City FC season" article made just to represent a handful of early signings. On top of this, if you check the inaugural season articles for virtually all of the other MLS clubs, they all include their signings made in the prior calendar year, for the exact same reason - it makes so much sense to include them there, and there really is no alternative. This is kind of "the exception to the rule" - it's not going to ever happen again for NYCFC so it needs people to just let it slide. After all, one of Wikipedia's guiding tenets is if the rule doesn't seem to work, ignore the rule.
As for free transfers listing the previous club - this is the accepted standard across most season articles I've ever read. Maybe if the relevant players had been out of work for a few months it might make sense to list them as signing from "unattached" but when the player has left their previous club literally days, or even hours, before, does it really matter? The fact that it says the signing was on a free should give all the indication that is needed about the nature of the transfer. Falastur2 Talk 22:34, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I checked other recent MLS teams:
You are have a case. Make it like those. Walter Görlitz (talk) 04:39, 15 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As a concession to your argument - because in truth, this should have been done before - I've modified the table to show the players having arrived in "Summer 2014" as opposed to just "Summer", which will differentiate between those who are already here and those who might be signed in another 7 or 8 months. I am not sure why @Walter Görlitz: you have reverted my edit based on the above discussion this seems to be an issue discussed and agreed on. Did I miss something? Paul  Bradbury 14:27, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
