Requested move 3 November 2017[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: MOVE TO 2017 Fresno shootings per consensus(non-admin closure) -- Aunva6talk - contribs 05:28, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fresno shootingsApril 2017 Fresno shootings – The page was moved under the pretense that this is "the only such event". However, shootings have happened in Fresno in (to name a few) November 2012, September 2015, December 2016, September 2016, March 2017, and October 2017. We don't have article for all these shootings, but it's possible that somebody could write at least some of them. I propose moving this page to "April 2017 Fresno shootings" to disambiguate from the March 2017 and October 2017 shootings. FallingGravity 20:42, 3 November 2017 (UTC) Relisted. Jenks24 (talk) 10:41, 12 November 2017 (UTC) Relisting in the light of blocked user, and lack of clear consensus. —usernamekiran(talk) 17:54, 19 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Disagree - None of those linked incidents have any evidence of long-term notability, given they're all small shootings that only received a small blip of local coverage. I support a move back to 2017 Fresno shootings. HastyBriar321 (talk) 04:06, 12 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
WP:ATDAB doesn't mention notability of other events as a reason not to disambiguate. FallingGravity 18:13, 12 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
But are hypothetical articles of any of those incidents notable on their own? HastyBriar321 (talk) 21:09, 12 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Ask before moving this page (again)[edit]

At the beginning of January 2020, this article was moved] to 2017 Fresno shooting spree on the grounds of needing specificity. On 2 July 2021 it was moved back to 2017 Fresno shootings. Neither move appears to have been discussed here, first. The requirement for article titles is the common name used in reliable sources and that it be both concise and precise, it does not need to be specific. As noted in the above discussion, the year is generally sufficient to disambiguate "Shootings" and this is the only notable shooting in Fresno in 2017. If, in the future, there are additional articles about other notable shootings in Fresno in 2017 then they should be disambiguated by using qualifiers. A disambiguation page might also be needed. Please also remember there are naming conventions for both events and shootings of individuals, so another shooting in Fresno in 2017 might not have the same name, it might not even need a year. Bearing in mind that articles should be written first, Wikipedia does not have a current issue with having two articles needing to have the same name, so we should not try to find a solution when we do not have a problem. Since the above discussion indicates the current consensus for the common name for this article's title is 2017 Fresno shootings. If you disagree, and think it should be something else, then please ask, and obtain consensus, before moving this page (again). - Cameron Dewe (talk) 04:18, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not really a mass shooting[edit]

There were five days between the first shooting (with 1 victim) and the second shooting (with 3 victims), so this incident doesn't fit any of the commonly accepted definitions of a mass shooting (i.e., four or more people shot at approximately the same place and time).
