"This page is not needed because there is already another page on MossSide. It's appearance high on Google unfairly denigrates a tiny part of Manchester; one of the most impoverished areas in the UK. This was a pathetic shooting by one individual, once, carried out by someone who did not even live in Moss Side, and unconnected with the annual Carnival. It does not warrant the description "mass shooting" on the scale that is understood in the US and internationally. That is misleading. It does not warrant a Wikipedia page of its own! The past history is already set out on your Moss Side page. The existence of this page helps to perpetuate a right-wing ideology that black people are a problem, at a time when the far-right are rising in power in the UK. People here are vulnerable. In reality, anyone living, working, parking or visiting here knows that it is a brilliant place to live, but struggling with bad planning, poverty and austerity. The world class University of Manchester is here, the Whitworth Gallery, and the Manchester Science Park. It was the home of Anthony Burgess and Emmeline Pankhurst. Please remove this page as soon as possible, to stop Wikipedia denigrating this whole community. Thank you." -- added by Wikipedsimon (Wikipedsimon) 10:08, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete Though Simon's reasons are ...bad... to say the least, the notability of this event was based on a possible relation to the Carnival and a large number of injuries that really turned out to be minor. Since the relation has come to nothing the event fell out of the news and the article cannot even be updated, let alone expanded. Sad event but not for Wikipedia.
I am concerned about the attitude of the nominator Wikipedsimon, though, with his main concern being that the article is racist and defamatory to a whole community that has some famous things, when the article doesn't mention race and most people have no idea that the famous things and the area are even related - not that shootings even have that affect at all, with Miami still a very popular tourist and migration hub. (His only edits are to add the template to the page, also) Kingsif (talk) 10:49, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
