Cyclone Mekunu redirect[edit]

Is there a specific reason why this cyclone does not yet have its own article? It seems to meet WP:Notability, and it is currently under a redirect, so that only an administrator can create a new article. --Undescribed (talk) 03:28, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I've been wondering that too MegaEarthquake (talk) 03:33, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately no one yet has put the effort to write a full fledged, non-copyvio article that could outgrow its season section. YE Pacific Hurricane 05:31, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

03B?[edit]

according to this, it seems that 95B was posthumously upgraded to a TC by the JTWC FleurDeOdile (talk) 02:10, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yep. They've moved all their imagery and stuff to the new folder so I guess its official. It was operationally classified as a TC shortly after landfall but no advisories were issued because JTWC does not warn on inland systems.Damien4794 (talk) 10:12, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have double checked this via the Admin of the JTWC Facebook group who has told me that

"In real-time the system was INVEST 95B but preliminary post analysis say the system was above 30knots(35) hence JTWC have upgraded it to TC #03B" and that "the JTWC received data pointing out the 35kt intensity was reached just before landfall hence the system should have been warned on just before landfall. As soon as JTWC received the data JTWC upgraded the invest to TC #03B"

. As a result it is official and we can addit to the article as a TS.Jason Rees (talk) 12:43, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Should we write about this confiusion in the text? AAnnoonnyymous (talk) 05:44, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fake News Alert![edit]

I just noticed many Indian news sources claiming that Mekunu has made landfall in Karnataka. I can ascertain that this is fake news as Mekunu has dissipated 2 days ago in the Arabian Desert, which is very far from India. Instead, the heavy rains Karnataka is currently facing is from the remnants of Invest 94A, a weak low pressure area in the eastern Arabian Sea. Therefore, please do not entertain any news sources claiming any cyclone landfall in India. Strangely, the same trend was also noticed for Sagar – though there wasn't any mention of a landfall. Inconsistence of IMD bulletins[edit]

Editors should be careful about IMD bulletins as they are often inconsistent. For example, two bulletins (national and TCAC) said the intensity of Luban was 45 knots as a cyclonic storm at 03:00 UTC on 9 October, yet the RSMC Bulletin had reported it as a severe cyclonic storm at the same time.-- 🐱💬 06:43, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

currently there is a ID number for Gaja changes from BOB09 to ARB05. Almost appears as if Gaja intensified into a cyclonic storm it would get a new name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:245:8280:9418:6990:FCF:17F3:CB92 (talk) 08:14, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
IMD seems to have reverted the change; they currently address it as BOB09.--Jasper Deng (talk) 10:28, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mind if I add this image?[edit]

2 editors, including and IP, removed this image for only one reason: no space. I did my best to add space in the summary in the article. And even if I would add it back, it would be removed a few days later. But do you mind if I add it to the article? 🐴sARENiceRide with 🐎 to my talk🐴 page 04:19, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Very severe cyclonic storms (Luban and Titli) over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal in October 2018. This was the first time 2 simultaneous cyclones were active in the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea since reliable records began in 1960.
For the desktop computer version, there is really no space too add in. After you add enough content on season summary, you can add it back. --219.79.126.173 (talk) 02:45, 24 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Wrong. I view this both on a small desktop screen and an average-sized phone screen. It clearly fits in, particularly if a {{clear}} is added. Your edit is hereby reverted as consensus is against you.--Jasper Deng (talk) 09:21, 24 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

IP users keep changing wind speeds to random numbers. And they don't seem to stop. 🐴sARENiceRide with 🐎 to my talk🐴 page 21:09, 23 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: requests for increases to the page protection level should be made at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. I recommend asking that this be semi-protected, as this would prevent IP vandalism while still allowing most editors to contribute DannyS712 (talk) 21:31, 23 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
