Standings format[edit]

Given that the playoffs are based on league standings and not on conference standings anymore, I am wondering whether we should use league-wide standings as the primary format on the season page? Would love to hear thoughts from others who have edited this page: @Dale Arnett: @Swimmer33:. Thanks! Kumar (talk) 15:45, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

My first reaction is to use the league standings. However, the Commissioner's Cup has thrown a monkey wrench into things, seeing that it's conference-based. That said, we can still keep the Cup standings and figure out how to flag teams. Or another idea... use the existing conference-based standings templates as the basis for separate Cup templates. — Dale Arnett (talk) 18:26, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking about that as well. I think one league wide standings and one cup standings would be best. I was considering doing a league wide standings last year as well, but just never changed up the template. I think we could have a reduced template for the Cup standings. I was going to wait for the WNBA to publish official rankings and mirror how they did it on their site. Swimmer33 (talk) 14:15, 9 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I agree about having the league-wide standings be the default that appears under the "Standings" sub-heading, and then perhaps we could have one sub-heading called "Commissioner's Cup" under which we have both the reduced template for Cup standings and the rest of the Cup information. I created a template for league-wide standings here: Template:2020 WNBA standings. If it looks good, I can go ahead and place this in the article. I would propose placing it in all the team season pages as well. Kumar (talk) 20:19, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I made one minor change and put it on the page & the team pages that have been created. I would leave commissioner's cup the way it is now on this page, and we'll see how the WBNA formats their standings and go from there. Then we can also add that template to team pages.
