Name[edit]

According to [1], "The Facebook Files" is the Wall Street Journal's name for the leak, while "The Facebook Papers" is what most other news outlets have called it. (The WSJ was the original paper that broke the story.) I think this nuance should be worked into the article somehow, but I'm unsure whether the article should also be renamed. The Washington Post and New York Times have recently published articles referring to "The Facebook Papers" that include but are not limited to Haugen's disclosures; I've linked them to Haugen's article in the SEC complaint section because they are relevant there, e.g. [1][2][3][4], but it is this article where these latest developments could be expanded. I think this expansion will support an article title change to The Facebook Papers, because it looks like the disclosures are growing beyond the initial disclosures reported by the WSJ. I'd also support a more generic event name like 2021 Facebook leak in the absence of (or changing) common name. The "Facebook Papers" is only from the last week and it was the "Facebook Files" for a month before then. czar 05:03, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
CNBC is reporting today, "The Facebook Papers, a series of articles published by a consortium of 17 U.S. news outlets beginning Friday", with an overview and a disclaimer currently posted "This story is developing. Check back for updates." I think one way to help determine an appropriate article name is to start organizing information from outlets in the consortium here. I am not necessarily going to have time today to focus a lot of attention on it, but I think the drafting process will be helpful. Beccaynr (talk) 14:27, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
According to Google Trends, most users have been searching for "Facebook files", although over the next few days this may change[5]. Facebook papers is also an analogy with Panama papers, which (I'm speculating) might be the reason for the press to prefer this term. I suggest waiting two more days to see if the majority of users turn to using Facebook papers. If this happens, I recommend renaming the article to Facebook papers, and explain in the first section the etymology. LifeDancePro (talk) 01:26, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
