Rosalía Arteaga endorsement box[edit]

@Devonian Wombat: I have reversed your addition of an endorsement box for Rosalía Arteaga for the following reasons:

1. She is not an official candidate for the position per the U.N. website [1]. If she's not actually in the race, why give undue weight to her "endorsements"?

2. It is unclear if either of the "endorsement" listed are actually endorsements.

For her country Ecuador, the source listed says "Arteaga said this week that while Ecuador supports her bid, she prefers to be considered a civil society candidate." This statement is based on a tweet which... doesn't say that. Her quotes makes it sound like her government is supporting her privately but not publicly, and that she doesn't need their official backing anyway. Basically, Ecuador is not endorsing her.

If Ecuador was, in fact, endorsing her, they would have written a letter of support to the presidents of the GA and the SC for her to become an official candidate. But they didn't write that letter, there is no coverage of this anywhere. Ecuador is thus not endorsing her.

For the endorsement of Paula Bertol, the source listed says "Along with Argentine diplomat Paula Bertol as her deputy, Forward has put Arteaga in the running.". So it's not Paula endorsing Arteaga, but it's actually Forward endorsing them both. Not sure running-mates should be included along with endorsement, but it's also unclear what is meant by "deputy". Can you even have running-mates for Secretary General?

@Mottezen:, presumably, when they say "deputy" they are referring to the position of Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, who is appointed directly by the Secretary-General. I'm not entirely sure if that can be considered a running-mate position, but Kamala Harris is listed at List of Joe Biden 2020 presidential campaign U.S. Congress endorsements, so it seemingly is not considered redundant to list running-mates as endorsers. No objections to removing Ecuador from the list of endorsers. Devonian Wombat (talk) 03:15, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
