Opinion polls[edit]

Please do not add without using reliable sources. Twitter is not reliable. --Walrus Ji (talk) 19:52, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am not sure the section on opinion polls was removed from the 2021_West_Bengal_Legislative_Assembly_election page. Each opinion poll had citations from reputable news sources. Moreover, I didn't create this section, I simply re-inserted this section from a previous edit, which had been removed without any reasonable explanation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sdgmtl (talkcontribs) 20:02, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Sdgmtl: I had removed it as they were sourced to unreliable and questionable sources. Please do not add them back without discussing it here first. I have checked the links and I dont think they are reliable source. --Walrus Ji (talk) 20:56, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is what wikipedia says on "Reliable Source" from the link you cited. "News sources often contain both factual content and opinion content. News reporting from well-established news outlets is generally considered to be reliable for statements of fact" How is an article from an established news outlet like ABP India not reliable? What you are doing amounts to vandalism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sdgmtl (talkcontribs) 21:54, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Here are tw reliable sources, not twitter that can be used perfectly fine. I don't see any reason not to include the opinion poll with these sources referenced: https://www.thequint.com/news/politics/abp-cvoter-opinion-poll-west-bengal-assembly-elections-mamata-banerjee-bjp-tmc

Hindian1947, Teerthaloke102, Thanks for the links. Since thequint, a third party news site has cited this ABP-CVOTER Opinion poll. I think it would now be acceptable for me if ABP-CVOTER is included into the article. But I dont agree to including other polls. Let's see what others have to say. Regarding Results[edit]

Many Users Want To Knew What Are The List Of The Constituencies Districts For Seeing Candidates,Past Results Etc...,

So I Recommend To Remove Hide Code For Results Dev Adhi (talk) 10:37, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dev Adhi, An article on the WP:MAINSPACE, should not have incomplete entries or empty sections.
If you want to add a table with list of constituencies, You can copy one from the List of constitency in West Bengal. It should not have empty rows about winners etc. if it was a WP:DRAFT then empty sections can be allowed. This is not a draft, so no empty tables. You can work on your sandbox at User:Dev Adhi/sandbox. Once you think it is ready, you can add it into the article. The table that is hidden right now should not be exposed as it has too many empty columns and it looks incomplete. Walrus Ji (talk) 10:42, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

For Example In Us Elections They Have Kept Empty Tables With TBD

We Are Keeping TBD As Here Also. How Can It Be Called Empty Unless Results Are Declared

Results Column Should Be Used

Many Users Are Complainting About It In Twitter Or Some Social Media Accounts About Hide Out Of Results Column Dev Adhi (talk) 10:52, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dev Adhi, It does not matter what people say on twitter. There is no benefit in adding tables with empty columns.
I am open to you adding a table with only the list of constituencies Walrus Ji (talk) 11:43, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I just added the list of constituency table in the article myself. Hope you are now happy. If you want to work on the table of results, you can do so on the talk page section below. Walrus Ji (talk) 11:52, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This Should Be On Page Dev Adhi (talk) 16:12, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

NO. Not until the table is completed. Please reach a WP:CONSENSUS by continuing the discussion
Dev Adhi, You said you wanted to include the table of constituencies. So I added it based on your request. Now I see that you have again restored the entire incomplete table, knowing that I had objected to the incomplete table. This is inappropriate behavior and editing against WP:CONSENSUS. Accordingly I have removed the entire table. We willl need to discuss this first. Please explain why you are adding incomplete tables here. This is not a WP:DRAFT version.
I have Moved the draft to your user space at User:Dev Adhi/sandbox. It was moved due to the incomplete tables. It is the latest version that you edited and Copy from 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election. You can work on it and complete it. But do not copy the content unless it is complete. Alliances?[edit]

I feel I bring this up pretty much every assembly election:

  • Is there any indication that the 'Federal Front' is contesting the election? Does the FF really exist at present? Wouldn't it be better to just say "Trinamool and allies"?
  • Is the NDA contesting the election? Is there any reference that there is a NDA seat-sharing for the assembly election?

Trinamool Muslim candidates[edit]

There is a confusion amongst different news outlets about number of Muslim candidates from Trinamool. While The Hindu and Outlook says the number is 35,[1][2] Zee News and Siasat Daily says the number is 42.[3][4] Which one is correct? -- Manasbose (talk | edits) 15:33, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Voter Statistics data[edit]

Again, there are two different sources giving two separate sets of data.

Among the total electorates, 3,63,7,307 are male, 3,59,26,064 are female and 1,590 are third gender voters.

— The New Indian Express[1]

According to the revised list, there are 3,73,66,306 male voters while the number of women eligible to vote is 3,59,27,084. There are 1,590 members of the third gender on the list.

Marxist Forward Bloc[edit]

Samar Hazra is a member of the Marxist Forward Bloc, a party that generally contests on CPI(M) symbol. Should we keep him listed as CPI(M) candidate or mention MFB instead? Any other LF candidates from minor parties? --Soman (talk) 12:20, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If it is CPIM symbol, that means officially she'll be part of CPIM Legislative party (given if she wins). Hence should be named CPIM candidate. However a sidenote can be written that she's a member of MFB. -- Manasbose (talk | edits) 15:55, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox two parties per line[edit]

As the page shows four major parties, it would be better to use 1, 2, 4, 5 in Infobox so that two parties would be shown per row, and that would look better and will not occupy a large part of the screen. More about the documentation: Template:Infobox election -- DaxServer (talk) 15:08, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

For seat changes[edit]

In general, I think we do seat changes going off of how many seats the parties currently have, not based on their performance in the last election. So I'm going to be editing the article based on that. If y'all think that we should be using the last election numbers, explain why... I guess it's important to show that the BJP did a lot better from the last election, but seat changes are seat changes and they had 35 seats at the time of this election, so the number should reflect how many seats they gained. Jonaththejonath (talk) 21:26, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. Someone just changed seat changes to the last election so can you fix that? C1MM (talk) 06:14, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Just fixed it.Jonaththejonath (talk) 14:04, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I checked the WikiProject Guidelines and they say to use the results from the last election. So I changed it back. I think it's really misleading in this specific case because of just how many defections there were but deferring to consensus. Jonaththejonath (talk) 14:30, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why did we delete the left and Congress Party performances?[edit]

I think it's important to keep them because we need to show that they were wiped out/the BJP had big gains. That is very important for the narrative of this election (and both parties had sizable numbers before this election!). The account who deleted it mentioned something on the talk page, but I do not see that section. Jonaththejonath (talk) 22:02, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I concur. The Sanyukta Morcha got about 9-10% of the votes (AIFB 0.53 CPI 0.2 CPI(M) 4.73 INC 2.93 RSP 0.21 ISF?), and thus by no means insignificant for the outcome of the election. --Soman (talk) 22:23, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If someone doesn't give me a good reason why we shouldn't keep the parties, I will add them back tonight. Jonaththejonath (talk) 14:06, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Result images[edit]

@Mrvl2009:. please use the svg images. If you create result images, please upload them as SVG version. - Jayanta Nath (Talk|Contrb) 07:07, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have brought back the SVG Map. But please rectify the color of TMC and change GJM to GJM (Tamang). Or else it will be mistaken as the unified GJM of 2016. Sorry for the mistakes. Thank you. Mrvl2009 (talk) 09:33, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please edit the image as I mentioned or else the image will remain misleading. And the GJM has to be edited. Thank you. Mrvl2009 (talk) 09:57, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The votes secured by all the candidates are not updated and most of them are blank. Please refer to the Election commission Of India website to fill this up. Also add the third place finishes and the votes secured by these candidates too. A lot of other parties which took part in this election are not mentioned anywhere in this page. Please add them in the party wise result section along with their popular votes count. In the post poll violence section the Kolkata Police reports of fake news being spread should be written too. Thank you. 43.252.248.72 (talk) 10:06, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 11:37, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

NOTA[edit]

How many people and how much percent of people voted for NOTA (None of the above candidates)? Please add data and graph for that.

Notably I saw there was NOTA button in this election.

Post poll violence[edit]

Very little is mentioned in the page in the aftermath section about the post-poll violence that ensued and displaced many WB Hindus to neighbouring states. Expanding this or creating a new page about this would be a good idea as this is an important topic.

I concur with the above comment. Post poll violence is certainly an important topic and more information can be captured about it by expanding this page or creating a new page. There are several articles available on it online. https://theprint.in/politics/dragged-by-wire-head-smashed-hacked-gory-stories-of-post-poll-violence-in-mamatas-bengal/654407/. Details from the governer's visit can also be added to provided further information.:https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/what-i-saw-can-t-be-described-dhankhar-on-meeting-people-hiding-in-assam-post-polls-101621020781160.html

Turnout 82.32% there should be voter turnout, increase or decrease parameter, so i was trying to add that.

Splitting article[edit]

This article is currently the second largest on the wiki, with 546,365 bytes. After looking at the section sizes, the Nandigram controversy appears to be 181,888 bytes. Splitting the Nandigram controversy into a separate article would reduce the page size to 364,477 bytes. So I propose we split the Nandigram controversy section into a separate article. Blubabluba9990 - sounds good to me, feel free - it's been about a week without objection. ‡ El cid, el campeador talk 21:06, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Blubabluba9990: Yes, splitting it would be great if a short summary about the same is provided for context. // Personally, being from West Bengal, I am surprised that we literally made the contents of the longest Wiki article. Lol. // ---CX Zoom(he/him) (chat with me|contributions) 17:52, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I would split it myself but I use a phone and I would need a powerful computer since my phone takes a few seconds to load the page itself.
@Blubabluba9990: I'd suggest that the section be split to the the page titled 2021 Nandigram controversy to avoid confusion with the 2007 Nandigram violence. ---CX Zoom(he/him) (chat with me|contributions) 15:46, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. As long as it gets split. Blubabluba9990 (talk) (contribs) 17:31, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Page created at 2021 Nandigram controversy. I shifted some content and added some extra. Pls edit it as desirable.Asmitghosh3 (talk) 13:55, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Are we going to remove/condense the constituency wise results since an article was made from it? zsteve21 (talk) 19:05, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Very generic term. Currently it speaks mostly about one election, and can be merged into the election article. Titodutta (talk) 15:14, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Due to an editor moving the page and changing the topic, I noticed the page and eventually moved it to 2021 Bengal post-poll violence, which appears to be supported by the sources. Original term is fairly generic and could become a disambiguation page if needed, but I've left it as a redirect. Since this page is so long, I instead merged 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election#Violence to the post-poll violence page. No prejudice against merging it back here, but it may be a notable topic on its own. —Ost (talk) 19:30, 15 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
