Which one is the parent province?[edit]

I've scanned through Republic Act No. 11550 and found nothing about the plebiscite nor the parent province (a.k.a. the legal predecessor of one of the two provinces). I may have missed it though. —hueman1 (talk • contributions) 12:04, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I read it again, and found out that Maguindanao's officials before and after the plebiscite will serve as Maguindanao del Sur's, if the proposal was approved, of course. Shouldn't be the article be moved back to "Maguindanao division plebiscite", I get the rationale of Maguindanao del Sur being the "parent province" and legally it is only Maguindanao del Norte being created and the remaining part of the province renamed as "Maguindanao del Sur" but essentially the province known as "Maguindanao" is being divided into two. This would be consistent with Palawan division plebiscite, although in that case it could be argued that the article is named that way because plebiscite called for the ratification of a law that technically called for the creation of Palawan del Norte and Palawan Oriental and "Palawan del Norte and Palawan Oriental creation plebiscite" would be mouthful.Hariboneagle927 (talk)

It quite clearly should be at "2021 Maguindanao division plebiscite". The long title of RA 11550 is "AN ACT DIVIDING THE PROVINCE OF MAGUINDANAO INTO TWO (2) PROVINCES, NAMELY: MAGUINDANAO DEL NORTE AND MAGUINDANAO DEL SUR" (sorry for the ALL CAPS). Compare to Palawan: "AN ACT DIVIDING THE PROVINCE OF PALAWAN INTO THREE (3) PROVINCES, NAMELY: PALAWAN DEL NORTE, PALAWAN ORIENTAL, AND PALAWAN DEL SUR ". Davao Occidental: "AN ACT CREATING THE PROVINCE OF DAVAO OCCIDENTAL". Quezon del Sur: "AN ACT CREATING THE PROVINCE OF QUEZON DEL SUR". Palawan was divided into 3 provinces. Maguindanao was divided into 2 provinces. Davao Occidental was created from Davao del Sur. Quezon del Sur was created from Quezon, and the remainder was to be renamed as "Quezon del Norte". Proposed merge of Maguindanao leadership crises into 2022 Maguindanao division plebiscite[edit]
