Just per clarification, did the statement regarding this incident come from current Montana Governor Greg Gianforte, who previously served in Congress, or current Montana Congressman Matt Rosendale?--TommyBoy (talk) 02:18, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind, my question has been answered, and the article has been updated accordingly.--TommyBoy (talk) 03:09, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The incoming redirect 2023 Montana high-altitude object is bad. It fails PRIMARYTOPIC and PRECISE. It should point to the 2023 Chinese balloon incident article, since that was also a high-altitude object over Montana in February; and is clearly the primary topic for that search term -- 65.92.244.151 (talk) 03:03, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
you didn't have to say that. just point out the policy and leave. stupid unfunny sarcasm. 🍁🏳️🌈 DinoSoupCanada 🏳️🌈 🍁 (talk) 03:38, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Now the Pentagon is saying this may have been what was just shot down over Michigan waters.[1][2]Kches16414 (talk) 00:06, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This page should not be speedily deleted because news is just breaking and there hasn't been conclusive evidence the event is over as NORAD said they are monitoring the situation. Even if it turns out to be "nothing", the event can still be notable if it is widely covered. There are many articles that deal with hoaxes, scares, and other phenomena that have turned out to be "nothing". --Gothique Revival (talk) 03:48, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Merger with 2023 Lake Huron high-altitude object[edit]
The 2023 Lake Huron high-altitude object page is a superfluous and lower quality stub and should be merged into this article, which should be renamed to cover the entire topic. -Abovfold (talk) 03:51, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
2023 Montana object detection → February 11, 2023 Montana object detection – WP:ARTICLETITLES,WP:PRECISE,WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, this is neither the primary topic of this term, so this is not precise enough to identify the topic. This was a radar detection with no object found. The primary topic is the 2023 Chinese balloon incident which overflew Montana on February 1st, and was detected from the ground, with many different observers, and video all over the news from Montana of that "weather" balloon. This radar incident should never use such a simple title, and all such simple titles should redirect to the 2023 Chinese balloon incident article, as that is the clear and proper target of all such detections and observations and incidences of such, in the states it overflew. -- 65.92.244.151 (talk) 04:07, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've redirected this article to the article on 2023 Lake Huron high-altitude object, since the Pentagon has now issued the following statement on the Lake Huron one: "North American Aerospace Defense Command detected the object Sunday morning and has maintained visual and radar tracking of it. Based on its flight path and data we can reasonably connect this object to the radar signal picked up over Montana, which flew in proximity to sensitive DOD sites."
