Naming[edit]

The wording that I adopted for the division's cavalry (2nd Guards Uhlan Regiment) was as per the wiki article on the Guards Corps. However, I am not convinced that this partial anglicisation of the german 'Garde-Ulanen Regiment Nr.2' is the 'correct' format. Surely, if we are going to partially translate, why not go the whole hog and use 'Lancer' instead of 'Uhlan'?

So, 'Westfälisches Ulanen-Regiment Nr.5' would become '5th (Westphalian) Lancer Regiment' - I have added the brackets so as not to mislead people into thinking that there were 5 (or more) Westphalian Lancer Regiments.

Of course not everything should be translated, e.g. 'Ulanen-Regiment von Schmidt (1. Pommersches) Nr.4' would be translated as '4th (1st Pommeranian) Lancer Regiment "von Schmidt".Glevum (talk) 19:42, 12 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
