Membership section[edit]

Hi,

This article is similar to that of the US equivalent to Parliament, their Congress 117th United States Congress. On this article they have an identical section which features all of the members.I created this section based on the US article, user:ITBF removed this information without discussion so I have reversed their edits. If they would like to remove the section please participate in a discussion before making such a massive removal of information. SCN 1999 (talk) 12:03, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with SCN 1999. While information has indeed been duplicated from the members' list page, I think that the information included on this article is relevant enough to warrant inclusion. Ancillary facts, such as how long each member has been in office, has been excluded. TheTimMan (talk) 12:20, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User:SCN 1999 why do you keep re-creating information that already exists on Wikipedia lists? You did the same thing with the list of Asian-Australian politicians, and now here. If you're unaware that a list already exists that's understandable, but other people have spent time developing the list first. How does it help the readers to have identical information in multiple places? What's the plan for when MP's or senators resign/retire in the new list? ITBF (talk) 14:00, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Technically, I created this section here in 47th Parliament of Australia first, then went on to create Asian Australians in politics.

Basically what I have been doing is looking at similar articles from the US side of Wikipedia and following them as a guide. I think that many US articles are of high standard so I figured that by making the Australian articles similar to the US articles they would also be of higher quality.

I'm not going to talk about Asian Australians in politics here, but for 47th Parliament of Australia in particular, I would say that membership of Parliament is different to just being a member for the house or the senate, as terms of office do not align with Parliament openings or sessions. If the reader wants further information specifically about a legislative branch they can go directly to the list, otherwise they can get a broad overview. Also I believe that the information was presented differently so that the two can exist separate without being redundant.

I personally don't find list articles to be readable but instead searchable, and more of a data dump where you can sort through relevant information. That is why I try to make sure that the information from the list looks more presentable in the article.

As for the plan to when parliamentarians resign and/or retire, a new section called "Changes in membership" would be made, this would be similar to the 117th United States Congress article.

Hey, is anyone able to swing by Parliament House and take a photo? We just need a photo from either this year or last.

Proposal to add symbol for new appointees and elected[edit]

Hi all,

Just thought i would suggest the use of a symbol for members elected after the beginning of parliament, like how "*" is use to define who was elected at the last election in the senate tab, i just think it would clear any confusion for the reader.
