Need Discussion on the citation[edit]

Hi All,

Some users have repeatedly added citation linking the film with American movie Blair Witch , but this is only a citation from local media only, and the movie linking with Blair Witch hasn't been verified by any established or reputed media (national or international). Hence this citation supposedly linking with an American movie has been removed and should not be added till we have better citations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Work2win (talkcontribs)

I was hoping to avoid commenting because I don't want to be involved in the specifics. As to your point, @Work2win:, that this is a citation from local media, I don't see much strength in that argument. It's an Indian film, so naturally Indian publications would write about it. Bangalore Mirror is a reliable source for our purposes and we aren't required to wait for Forbes or whatever to pick this up. That said, this seems to me like a recurring issue of failure in basic reading comprehension. The IPs keep saying "based on", "based on", "based on", but the source doesn't say "based on". The source says "on the lines", which I equate with the idiom "along the lines of", which means "similar to" or "inspired by". "Inspired by" is not the same thing as "based on." "Based on" implies an official adaptation. A film can be inspired by stylistic elements of Vertigo or Alien without being based on Vertigo or Alien.
There were other reading comprehension problems at this article in the past, for instance here where an IP editor wrote "The movie was based on the 1999 English horror movie The Blair Witch Project" and supported the statement with this Filmibeat reference. The reference reads "Few audience also claimed that 6-5=2 is the adaptation of the 1999 English horror movie The Blair Witch Project". The reference directly attributes the opinion to the audience, the article does not state "adaptation" as a fact.
At this point I can't tell if the reading comprehension failures are deliberate--maybe some people want to defame the film by suggesting it's a copycat? But any statement that the film is "based on the Blair Witch Project" has been inadequately supported and does not belong in the article until it can be adequately supported.
