October 2006[edit]

I've removed the speedy template. Yes, it was originally deleted under prod. But if those bands really played there, the club is probably notable enough for an article. OK, I found the source for this article--but it's word-for-word from a Myspace profile. So I guess it should be re-written? Sorry, too much of a newbie and too short on time to take that on... --Hcethatsme 02:15, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

February 2008[edit]

I've expanded the article quite a bit and, thanks to the AJC's archives, added quite a few references to this article. This venue was critical to Atlanta's music scene in the early 1980s and helped launch an untold number of bands that are now household names. I suspect that many more reliable sources without this sort of archive (Creative Loafing, The Technique, etc.) would help expand this article to at least B-class in short order. - Dravecky (talk) 01:27, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to keep the 688 name for which the club was known for, but at the time the sellers were asking for an unreasonable amount for the 688 "name". I just wanted to get the club up and running again so we had a place for bands to play and for people like myself had a place to go to appreciate music that we loved to listen to, dance to, and party to. I had to change a lot of things inside the club that were over looked before by city code that for some reason now could not be over looked, and there I believe was the downfall. The changes were too much for people to embrace,and I would agree, it wasn't the same, there would never be another 688. I had the means, I had the time, and I tried. The Rollick didn't last long, although I did book some noteworthy acts, Ru Paul, Bo Diddley, They Might Be Giants, just to name a few. What can I say? I tried but the city was watching, I was too young to know any better, after 688 was shut down by the city for illegal acts, if I only knew what I know today I could have saved a lot of money and heart ache.
