Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 15 September 2023[edit]

Add following paragraph:

In September 2023, the Ukrainian military reported the almost complete destruction of the brigade in the vicinity of Andriivka village.[1] Survik1 (talk) 23:39, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now Even if the claims of huge losses turn out to be entirely accurate, the unit would have to be formally dissolved, which is unlikely given current Russian habits, and especially because of the regional political pushback that would occur. Look at the 126th Coastal Defence Brigade. RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 23:59, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes and that doesn't exclude with each other. Should the brigade be reformed (or replenished and redeployed if you like), another paragraph saying so can be added. Survik1 (talk) 09:08, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You assume the brigade was completely destroyed (rather than merely losing all combat effectiveness and a nontrivial portion of its manpower).
So far no fully reliable sources have appeared to that effect.
See ISW's campaign report today, from which it seems that the situation on the ground is still very unclear. RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 00:44, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Already done It now mentions: On 16 September 2023, David Axe of Forbes reported that the 72nd had ceased to exist... ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 00:18, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
While I don't wish to end up edit warring or engaging in WP:OWN behavior, the cited article and author take a tone that is hardly neutral, nor is the analysis very competent at all. Notwithstanding WP:FORBES, I might revert once I check the current revision. RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 00:45, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Revert would not be appropriate, but some kind of CE is definitely necessary anyway. Additionally this TG message from GEN Syrskyi discusses it in terms of rout, not destruction: https://www.aljazeera.com/amp/news/2023/9/19/ukraines-army-commander-claims-3-elite-russian-brigades-crushed-in-east
(And unsurprisingly, a side-by-side comparison will clearly show why Al Jazeera is a better source than David Axe’s article.)

@ARandomName123 @Survik1 Read this by Konstantyn Mashovets, one of ISW’s primary sources (he’s a Ukrainian “military observer” (ISW’s words) who writes mainly in Russian): https://t.me/zvizdecmanhustu/1445
Despite the platforms being used, Mashovets is IMO pretty clearly a more reliable and more competent source than David Axe.
Let me know what you think. Cheers, RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 05:17, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@RadioactiveBoulevardier: I don't have any opinion on the matter, I just saw that it was already in the article, and marked the edit request as already completed. However, the 3rd assault brigade did claim to have completely destroyed it. Whether that's true or not is anyone's guess. If you feel more info should be added, I won't be opposed to it.
