Page move

Hi. Please see this discussion. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:39, 30 December 2019 (UTC)

Please Don't Rush To Be First

Please note that nothing is achieved by being the first to update this page with the nominations (or eventually the winners) as they are being announced if you do so badly. Because all that means is that someone else has to come along and correct your mistakes - and they could have done it properly in the first place. Please don't be in a rush to be the first, take the time to do things properly. Stenun (talk) 13:53, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

Please fix Format in # of nominations chart

I added marriage story to the 4 nominations section on the grid but unfortunately I upset the formatting. If someone could fix it that would be great. Apologies. film1234 (talk) 14:36, 13 January 2020 (UTC) Marriage Story has 6 nominations, not 4. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.58.175.86 (talk) 14:44, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

Semi-protected edit request on 11 February 2020

Add the double dagger next to the winners like the other pages, to make the winner more clear and distinguished from the nominees. Thank you Niknigal (talk) 09:51, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

Not done: The page's protection level has changed since this request was placed. You should now be able to edit the page yourself. If you still seem to be unable to, please reopen the request with further details. JTP (talkcontribs) 03:39, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

How are "The Names" listed?!

It seems that the Listing is done in Alphabetical Order. But if so how does it come that this is on the actuall Page: Quote:

".... Ford v Ferrari – Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and James Mangold The Irishman – Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Emma Tillinger Koskoff Jojo Rabbit – Carthew Neal, Taika Waititi, and Chelsea Winstanley Joker –.... .... Callum McDougal Once Upon a Time in Hollywood – David Heyman, Shannon McIntosh, and Quentin Tarantino"

But why is "The Irishman" listed after "Ford v Ferrari"?! a not AFTER "Once upon a Time in Hollywood"? After all it's called THE Irishman. THE (!!!!) Irishman. And T (Tee) comes after O (Oh). Okay I is coming after F, in the Alphabet. But the Movie is not called Irishman but indeed THE Irishman. And T comes after O. So it should be in the last Position. Just saying!

Annother Example woud be this:

American Factory – Steven Bognar, Julia Reichert and Jeff Reichert

The Cave – Feras Fayyad, Kirstine Barfod, and Sigrid Dyekjær

The Edge of Democracy – Petra Costa, Joanna Natasegara, Shane Boris, and Tiago Pavan

For Sama – Waad Al-Kateab and Edward Watts

Honeyland – Ljubomir Stefanov, Tamara Kotevska, and Atanas Georgiev

The Movies are called THE Cave and THE Edge. I mean For Sama, the F is counted as the first Letter. But not in the Cave and the Edge. Here the C and the E counts as the First letter. But in For Sama, the F is counted as the First Letter. How this... If F is the First Letter, then the T from The should also count. And again, the Movies not called Cave or Edge, but THE Cave and THE Edge!!!!!!!!!!!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.114.28.239 (talk)

The word "the" is completely ignored when alphabetizing film titles (and other items). So, "The Irishman" is alphabetized as "The Irishman". Same goes for "The Cave" and "The Edge of Democracy". This rule also applies to other minor, insignificant words, such as the words "a" and "an". This is all explained in the Wikipedia article Alphabetical order. In the section called "The and other common words". Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 04:46, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
Just recently I asked on the Wikipedia:Reference desk if there's a shorthand term for doing this: Apparently there isn't. Can we just make up a word right now? The world needs a word. How about...esplated? The list of film titles esplated. This is the term now.--occono (talk) 10:36, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
Perhaps I am wrong. I thought it was called "elision". When I checked that article, it states: The omission of a word from a phrase or sentence is not elision but ellipsis, or elliptical construction. But, I am not sure that "matches" what you are referring to. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 17:34, 10 February 2020 (UTC)

In English grammar, articles are ignored when alphabetizing. Eschoryii (talk) 09:37, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
