A. J. HartleyAndrew James Hartley — I see no reason for a "redirect" page from his full name to his abbreviated name A.J. Hartley. There are too many abbreviated names on Wikipedia. Feedback would be appreciated. Adamdaley (talk) 02:31, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Survey[edit]

Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's policy on article titles.
  • Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME; ghits are 120K vs 23K. "Cutting down on redirect pages" is not a real issue. Johnbod (talk) 20:03, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose; On the cover of all his books you can read: A.J. Hartley, so this problably has his preference. --Algont (talk) 12:58, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

Any additional comments:

In reply to User:Green Giant, I can understand some author's or people would rather go by for example you stated about J.R.R. Tolkien than their full name. In the the person's infobox it should be stated their abbreviated as a secondary source after their full name. This would cut down on redirect pages on Wikipedia and save confusion among some people who would like to know the person's full name instead of asking what is J.R.R. Tolkien's full name for example. I am wondering since the seven (7) days are up. Can someone explain to me what happens to the move proposal? Feedback would be appreciated. Adamdaley (talk) 03:46, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure I understand what point you're making above, but as far as the move proposal is concerned, I think it's clear there isn't consensus for a change of title, so I'm going to close it. (Try proposing it again if you think you've got really strong arguments, but we tend to use initials in cases where the author writes under initials and is best known in that form.)--Kotniski (talk) 07:19, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
