A1 motorway (Netherlands) → Rijksweg 1
A2 motorway (Netherlands) → Rijksweg 2
A4 motorway (Netherlands) → Rijksweg 4
A5 motorway (Netherlands) → Rijksweg 5
A6 motorway (Netherlands) → Rijksweg 6
A7 motorway (Netherlands) → Rijksweg 7
A8 motorway (Netherlands) → Rijksweg 8
A9 motorway (Netherlands) → Rijksweg 9

– A Rijksweg is a road similar to an E-route, in the Netherlands there are roads like the A2 motorway (Netherlands) that change names from A to N, sometimes multiple times. By naming them Rijksweg on Wikipedia, we don't have that issue. Another solution could be to make articles for both of them, but then you'd have a lot of duplicate information. All pages in {{Navbox Motorways in the Netherlands}} have to be renamed to Rijksweg followed by a figure. --Relisted. ^walk victor falk^talk 12:40, 19 May 2014 (UTC) --Relisted. Note that Germany autobahn articles are titled Bundesautobahn 8 and not Federal Motorway 8, so there is some precedence in non English titles of road articles. –Fredddie ™ 13:26, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This seems to make sense, but don't they use "A" on the ground eg: when I did the 3 October Festival last year, on the way back to the ferry we went on the A4 which has a chunk missing. Didn't have the term "Rijksweg" on the map or on signs. So per WP:COMMONNAME I'm not sure it's suitable. On the other hand "A1 motorway (Netherlands)" is far too cumbersome, and as we've just established, it's a rijksweg. As for whether you should talk about the route or just the motorway bits - go with whatever the sources say. Personally I think any road that isn't in the news or heavily documented in books fails WP:GNG and should be nuked, but that seems to bring out torches and pitchforks for some bizarre reason. That doesn't apply here as the missing bit between Leiden and Rotterdam is an obvious political hot potato and probably has sustained news coverage over decades. Support per WP:CONCISE and WP:NATURALDIS as well as wp:commonname and mos:pn (so wp:ue doesn't apply here) . Anyway, we already use "autoroute" (as a common noun no less, note the lack of capitalisation) for French free/motorways, such as A48 autoroute. This also takes neatly care of the shifting A/N denomination problem. Neutral - This seems like a rather frustrating question. I generally look to WP:COMMONNAME first, but I'm having trouble conducting a search engine test on this. A lot of hits for "motorway" seem circular to WP. After reviewing for a little while, I think that "motorway" appears to be the more common expression among English language sources (I'm happy to be challenged on this, if anyone wants to take me up on it. I could be wrong.....), but only slightly so. Looking at other stuff it seems like the standard for Latin alphabet countries is to use the native language (e.g. Autostrada A9 (Italy),Autopista AP-1,Bundesautobahn 5). Victor's WP:NATURALDIS cite is also a good point. Not sure what to do here..... NickCT (talk) 13:32, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose without further evidence of Wnglish usage. A perusal of English-language sources in the Netherlands reveals almost exclusive use of "motorway" (e.g., Dutch Daily News 14 hits for "motorway" vs. 0 hits for "rijksweg" and DutchNews.nl 464 hits for "motorway" vs. 1 hit for "rijksweg"). I am open to other more technical sources as evidence if they are out there. I understand the issue of the changing names from A to N, sometimes multiple times, but that can be dealt with through redirects and in the article text. — AjaxSmack 13:08, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
