ARFCN has nothing to do with the signalling itself, so the portion about the timeslot length "burst" etc should be removed from this article. The only thing ARFCN does is to point out a pair of frequencies used for uplink and downlink signalling.

ARFCN came from GSM originally and have some problems such as both the European DCS 1800 band and the American PCS 1900 use the same channel numbers which does not make good sense in a global world.

Other systems also use the method of ARFCN and confusingly enough they call their schemes the same name. However they do not have the 200 kHz division, it can be something else. One example of such radio system is TETRA which uses ARFCN to indicate 25 kHz channels in the base frequency bands, sometimes with a 12,5 kHz offset in either direction.
