Why are there links to nonexistent pages here?[edit]

Seems like the species names should NOT have embedded hyperlinks if they don't exist. Folks will get quickly frustrated when clicking on one species after another, simply to be taken to a message RE: "this page doesn't exist."

I suggest that the hyperlinks be REMOVED until the pages actually exist. (If you want to include a "(create this page)" hyperlink AFTER each species name, fine; but de facto web usability rules mean that a HYPERLINK IMPLIES CONTENT. If someone sees non-hyperlinked text, they assume (as they should) that there's NO CONTENT for that text. Conversely, if text IS hyperlinked, the user should be able to assume that there IS (CURRENTLY!) CONTENT AVAILABLE.

If I don't hear from someone about this, I'll go ahead and change it myself.

  • The thing is, once the pages are created then somebody would have to rediscover all the unlinked pages like this one. Also, this way it's easy to see what new pages are required, and quite quick for someone to create stub articles for them. And some of the more serious wiki editors have tools to find out "most requested pages", that is the nonexistent pages with the largest number of articles already linking to them, so they will know what to create without ever having visited this article. All good reasons for not removing these links, yes? Fleebo (talk) 23:59, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
