A fact from Acer floridanum appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 10 May 2007. The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that the precise status of the Florida Maple (Acer barbatum) as an independent species, or a subspecies of Sugar Maple (A. saccharum) is not clear?
I've found a lot of interesting taxonomic information about this species. It's obviously not much right now, but I'm following the format of some of the better articles within the scope of the plant project and hopefully it can be greatly improved. A picture would be great. I'm not living in the range right now, so if someone could put one up that would be helpful. Djlayton4 23:28, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This should be moved back to Acer barbatum. One source cites it as A. floridanum, every other source still accepts it as A. barbatum. We can't make judgements as to what we think it should be, but rather we should go with concensus. It's listed as A. barbatum in every database I have looked at.
