First reference to Abbas' mentions his widow[edit]

In the first part of the article, the first reference to Abu Abbas is the following: "This was disputed by Abbas' widow Reem al-Nimer in 2013". A casual reader does not know how Abbas is at this stage. It would be helpful to rewrite this to mention who Abu Abbas is prior to this. Only later do we learn who Abu Abbas is and do we have a link to his own Wiki page. I propose that this be cleaned up. - Zozz747

The Carabinieri are the Italian military police, not the Italian national police[edit]

The Carabinieri are the Italian military police, not the Italian national or state police, which is another corp demilitarized in 1981. I corrected the mistake. - Zorobabele

Misspelling of Weinberger as "Weingberger"[edit]

The page at one point misspells Caspar Weinberger's last name. I am not permitted to edit this page, but I would like this fixed. Thanks! Curdflappers (talk) 19:07, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Misspelling of Bassam as "Bassm"[edit]

Same as above. Ctrl+F should do the job pretty well. Please fix! Curdflappers (talk) 19:16, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

USS CARON's part in the interception[edit]

The USS CARON's Combat Cryptologic Direct Support Element (CDSE) knew the flight number of the Egyptian airliner and had successfully DF'd it's location relative to USS CARONS position and had provided that to the E-2 which was able to correlate that Line of Bearing (LOB) to the only aircraft on that LOB. A CTI3 and CTT3 were the two individuals onboard that were responsible for that initial identification and subsequent location of the Egyptian airliner. I was the CTI onboard the CARON that day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eger2001 (talkcontribs) 14:49, 30 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There is a mistake: it should be Wednesday, October 9 (not October 8). 140.105.167.147 (talk) 21:11, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Minor Typo: Abba's[edit]

In the section 'Negotiations' subsection 'Abbas' interaction', it says: "Abba's radio discussions" should be "Abbas'". ErfeoM (talk) 14:15, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Under Search for Flight 2843, I'd recommend linking 'VA-85' to Second VA-85 (U.S. Navy), 'VAQ-137' to VAQ-137, and 'VAW-125' to VAW-125

Example;

Current: The Saratoga launched several planes from Carrier Air Wing 17 (CVW-17) – four Grumman F-14 Tomcat (two belonging to VF-74 Be-Devilers and two belonging to VF-103 Sluggers), one Northrop Grumman E-2 Hawkeye (belonging to VAW-125 Tiger Tails), two Grumman A-6 Intruder (belonging to VA-85 Black Falcons) and one Northrop Grumman EA-6B Prowler (belonging to VAQ-137 Rooks). Additionally another E-2C, three more F-14s and two electronic intelligence aircraft (a Boeing RC-135 and a Douglas A-3 Skywarrior) joined the mission. The flight operation was planned by Robert "Bubba" Brodzky.[1]

Why does it say jewish-american at the start of the article?[edit]

That does not seem to be consistent with other articles in incidents where people died and it only mentions their nationality not their religion or ethnicity. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.239.67.183 (talk) 10:52, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Abbas' interaction subsection (typo that needs fixing)[edit]

"Abba's" appears once and should be changed to "Abbas'" (it's a minor issue, but it's still worth correcting).

"The airliner, flying wing-to-wing with several of the Tomcats, complied with the order to divert to Sigonella, touching down at 6:45 p.m. EST”

This is an understatement. The pilot of the Egyptian Air flight initially refused to comply and wanted to land at Catania. The F-14 got in his way and forced him over to land at Sigonella. In addition, the airliner was only wing-to-wing with one Tomcat. The other Tomcats were trailing a mile back.

I would say, “The pilot of the airliner, initially refused to comply with the the request to divert to Sigonella and wanted to land at Catania. Capt. Roe “Skid” Massey maneuvered his F-14 in such a way to force the airliner in the direction of Catania. During this maneuver, several F-14’s trailed the airplane a mile back. You have can hear a first hand account of the interaction by Capt. Massey."

Listen to this first hand account by Capt. Roe "Skid” Massey Specifically at 24 minute mark of video where he discusses forcing the pilot to divert. At the 18 minute mark of the video, he discusses the other planes trailing.

Ramallah misspelling[edit]

ASHDOD in occupied palestine?[edit]

The page quotes "on an ordinary sea journey to Ashdod harbor in occupied Palestine": this is a lie, Ashdod is in Israel, there is no contestation about this town, even by the most intransigence about international law. This is real disinformation to give some legitimity to the high jacking. 77.137.66.38 (talk) 17:46, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Highly unlikely. Probably service rifles or submachine guns. Should be investigated and probably needs to be corrected. BjKa (talk) 10:41, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
