Two Articles in One?[edit]

I don't want to immediately edit this page (though if no interest/argument is made against my doing so, I shall), but surely the entry for Leucippe and Clitophon should be entirely seperate from this entry on Achilles Tatius himself (much as with Xenophon of Ephesus and his Ephesian Tale)? Also, I'd question its "low importance" to the study of Classical Greece and Rome, but that'd just be bias on my part! -> Wiper 17:01, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, they should be separate. Go ahead and do it, I say. As for the "low importance", it is one of the sillier manifestations of the current fashion for project templates. Whatever the relative importance of Achilles Tatius and other writers, the presence of good articles about less-known people and things is crucial to the success of an encyclopedia -- more so, I think, than having a few star-quality articles about stars. Naming issues[edit]

There is 2 fellows with this name fl. IIIrd century AD (Astronomer), and fl. IVth century AD (Erotic writer). Lincher 2 July 2005 15:59 (UTC)

When he lived[edit]

The novel he wrote, The Adventures of Leucippe and Clitophon mentions two men who shaved their beards to pose as women. It also mentions a specific group of Egyptian wilderness-ruffians attacking Byzantium. Cassius Dio relates very similar events in one of his books. The ruffains shave their beards to pose as women to attack these two guards. Also, beards weren't popular until Emperor Trajan brought them back in the beginning of the second century. The papyrus seems to have only been dated by one guy so I would rather opt for using the internal evidence of the book which seems to place Taitus living near the end of the second century. 69.254.76.77 (talk) 01:17, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
