Help for posting a picture of the album cover and making links to other articles[edit]

Hello I need help to develop links to other pages from this article. I would like to link it to the Chaquico article and both articles on Jefferson Starship and Starship. Also, is there a way to post a picture of the album. I have tried to post album covers before and run into copyright issues, yet I see it being done on other album articles.Cheryl Fullerton (talk) 18:35, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cheryl Fullerton -- I saw your question in the Teahouse about using album art, and I wanted to give you some tips because I had the same question when I started working on album articles. It's my understanding that album cover images can be included in articles under "fair use" -- explained a little bit here. Basically, "fair use" means the album art can be used solely for the purposes of identifying the album (which is what the Wikipedia infobox is doing). When uploaded, it should be of relatively low resolution, since it only is being used for identifying the album in Wikipedia, not reproducing the album cover in other settings. A good place to find the album art might be the website of the record label or the artist, and you can upload it with this page, selecting the the "Album or single cover" licensing.
Here's an example of an album cover uploaded that way, so you can see how the fields got filled in by the user who uploaded it.
Then once it's uploaded properly, you just include the file's name as an additional element in the infobox, e.g. "Cover = [NAME OF FILE].png".
I'm also tagging Ss112 in case he has time to glance over this to make sure I got the rules right.
I hope this helps, and let me know if you get stuck. -- Cloud atlas (talk) 05:46, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, you summarised it pretty well. I've also just edited the article to make it more encyclopedic. I removed some puffery, editorializing, buzz words, and so on. It sounded quite glowing towards Chaquico, and Cheryl, while editors are allowed to write articles on their favourite musicians, they are expected to make them neutral and not tout how musically amazing the album is (WP:NPOV). We can only say this in quotes if a critic has said it. Bits like "the nature-conscious album's music places a premium on lyrical melodies, active rhythms, and the rippling, glistening fluid tones" and "While his rock roots can still be heard throughout the album, Chaquico weaves memorable melodies with formidable electric and acoustic guitar finesse" are certainly not neutrally worded. Buzz words like "rippling" and "glistening" should definitely be placed in quotes, and "formidable [...] finesse" should too, if they are indeed quotes. Ss112 06:29, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate all the helpful input from Cloud atlas and Ss112! I'm learning and it's great that both of you have offered some helpful information in a non-judgmental way. I haven't always had this experience on Wikipedia! I'm planning on writing an article on Chaquico's "Acoustic Planet" as well, so your input will be helpful to me. If you want to take a look at that one and give me your input, please do! It will probably be a few days before I post that one.Cheryl Fullerton (talk) 19:46, 14 June 2018 (UTC)Cheryl Fullerton[reply]

Hello there editors, I've obtained a low rez file of the Acoustic Highway album cover, so I'm going to give it a whirl! Cloud Atlas, I may be calling for help.Cheryl Fullerton (talk) 20:11, 24 June 2018 (UTC)Cheryl Fullerton[reply]

@Cheryl Fullerton: sounds good; let me know! -- Cloud atlas (talk) 00:38, 25 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Cloud Atlas and Ss112, I've managed to get the cover up there with a helpful bot who says too many pixels and will fix that. Take a look if you can and more helpful suggestions are always appreciated!Cheryl Fullerton (talk) 22:31, 27 June 2018 (UTC)Cheryl Fullerton[reply]
Nice work, Cheryl Fullerton! The album cover looks good -- I'm glad you got it figured out. I gave the article a close read, made some edits, and added some links. I do have a couple questions and suggestions. Right now, the article is rated "start class", and I think it could be a good goal to try to get it up to "C class". The specific criteria are listed here, but the main things I think would get it there are:
  • Splitting it into a few sections. I think you have enough content to have these sections:
    • A lead section. That's the first couple sentences at the beginning of the article before the table of contents.
    • A "Background" section. That's where you could put the content about Chaquico's evolution from rock to jazz, and a description of the music on the album.
    • A "Reception" section. This could contain quotes and summaries from critics. I see that there is the Allmusic review, but maybe there are others out there. You can put the chart performance info in this section.
    • An "Accolades" section. This could contain the list of awards that the album won.
  • Adding a track listing. I see that the track times are all listed on the Allmusic page, so you can use those. One easy way to add the track listing section is to copy the wikitext from an article that has one already. But you can also do it with Visual Editor by going to "Insert", then choosing "Template", and then typing "track listing". Here's the help page on how to use the template.
Here's an example of a pretty strong album article that has a lot of these characteristics. Once you add three sections, the table of contents will appear on its own.
The couple questions I had are:
  • Do you have a source for Chaquico playing a custom Washburn guitar? I don't see it in the one you cited at the end of that sentence.
  • Is there a source for the Native American influence on the album? I also don't see that in the LA Times source.
Let me know if this all makes sense, and if you need any help! -- Cloud atlas (talk) 05:19, 28 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Cloud atlas, I have made some of the changes you suggested including a source about the Washburn guitars. I will be adding information to flesh out the article a bit more. I would like it very much if you could give it a glance.I've been distracted by personal stuff of late, not which of the least is my old dog that passed away recently. I have a question regarding my Sandbox. After an editor by the name of Samee moved my article on Acoustic Highway, Sandbox is now in red text. Can I use the same sandbox to create another article about Acoustic Planet, Chaquico's second solo album? I will use basically the same format for it. Thanks again, for all your help! Cheryl Fullerton (talk) 00:05, 10 August 2018 (UTC)Cheryl Fullerton[reply]
Hi Cheryl Fullerton! I'm sorry to hear about your dog. That sounds sad, but I'm glad you're back! Regarding this Acoustic Highway article, I think it is looking pretty good! I like the new sections. I just made some small edits: I added links, fixed a couple citations formatting issues, and changed the header of the "Career" section to "Background". I think that if you add a track listing section (I describe how above) and a personnel section (like this one), then this will be a C-class article! Let me know if you need help with either of those things.
You can definitely use your sandbox again for your next article. When Samee moved your article out of the sandbox, he essentially just deleted the sandbox page. But you can just create it again. If you go to your sandbox, you can just click "Start the User:Cheryl Fullerton/sandbox page", and it will be a blank sandbox again. You can actually have multiple sandboxes at a time by writing whatever page title you want in the URL. For instance, if you type "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Cheryl_Fullerton/sandbox2" into your browser, you can then click the link to start that page.
One thing that might help you start the Acoustic Planet article is by copying the exact the formatting of the Acoustic Highway article. You can do that by going to the article, selecting the wikitext editor instead of the visual editor (go to Edit mode, and click the little pencil icon in the upper right), and then copying the code from the Acoustic Highway article into your sandbox. Then you can delete the paragraphs, but keep all the headers and infoboxes.
Keep me posted! -- Cloud atlas (talk) 06:36, 14 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Cloud atlas, thanks again for all the helpful input. I like the changes you made to the page! Here is a statement from another editor I just received: "I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale." I'm not sure what is being asked for here, do you have any thoughts on this? I haven't yet made the changes you suggested, but I thought I better get this album cover copyright information covered first out of fear they will take it down!Cheryl Fullerton (talk) 20:56, 5 September 2018 (UTC)Cheryl Fullerton[reply]
Hey Cheryl Fullerton -- it looks like you might have skipped/missed a step when you uploaded the album cover, and it didn't end up with an "album cover free use rationale" template. Then another editor who scans for files without free use rationales posted that boilerplate message. I went ahead and pasted a rationale template in there for you and filled it in a little bit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:CC_-_Acoustic_Highway_Album_Cover.jpg. I think what you should do is edit the page, and then click to edit the template, and fill in as much as you know about the file, in particular the record label, graphic artist, and URL where you got the file. Once you've done that, you can delete the scary template on the page that says "This file is claimed to be used...etc." Then your file should be in good standing! Let me know the next time you upload an album cover, and I'll help make sure it has the right template. Does this all make sense? -- Cloud atlas (talk) 04:08, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for track listing[edit]

Hey Valhella Jeff -- thanks for adding a track listing to the article. That's something that's been on Cheryl Fullerton and my to-do list. I went ahead and updated the table style to be the modern version that is used on album articles these days, and I added a citation for the songwriting credits. It looks like you're new to Wikipedia, so welcome! What else are you working on? You can reply to this message by editing the page and writing under this message. -- Cloud atlas (talk) 02:53, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey guys, sorry for the late thanks and appreciation for all the help and support. Fantastic! Yes, that was on my "to do list" and any support is very much appreciated. Thank you Valhella Jeff and Cloud Atlas! It looks better all the time!

Forgive me for my inexperience, Cloud Atlas, but how do I send a message to you? I'm about to send the draft for "Acoustic Planet" for your viewing and suggestions. Do I just type it in the body of my Sandbox draft, or is there a way to send it directly? I don't see a specific spot on the page to send a message. Cheryl Fullerton (talk) 03:13, 9 December 2018 (UTC)Cheryl Fullerton[reply]

Hey Cheryl Fullerton -- every page on Wikipedia has a corresponding "Talk" page, just like how this page that we're on right now is the Talk page for the Acoustic Highway page. Your sandbox draft has one, too, and that's where we can discuss it. You just click "Talk" up near the top of your browser, up where the two tabs are "User page" and "Talk". Then you start that page, and tag my username in it by typing {{u|Cloud atlas}}. That will send me an email. I took a screenshot from my browser of where to find the "Talk" tab.
One other thing before that, though -- I was looking at your recent edits, and I don't see any that you've made to your sandbox draft. Before I can see it (and before you can post to its Talk page), please make sure to "Publish" the draft, otherwise it will only exist on your computer. You don't need worry about anyone seeing or deleting it, because other editors don't usually look in peoples' sandboxes unless asked to (like the way you're asking me). Does this all make sense? -- Cloud atlas (talk) 04:43, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Big Bad Wolf[edit]

Hey Cheryl Fullerton -- welcome back to the wiki! I hadn't heard of Big Bad Wolf, but I'm pretty sure that it doesn't belong as a Chaquico "previous" album. I think that's because albums are supposed to count as the year they were released, not the year they were recorded. So I think it would make sense as the "next" album for after "A Thousand Pictures". Since there's no article for "A Thousand Pictures", I don't think there is a good spot in an infobox for it. I do see that it is represented in the Chaquico article in his discography, so that's good. Does this make sense? -- Cloud atlas (talk) 04:04, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:Cloud atlas -- Thanks for catching my edits. So, I wasn't really sure about how to add Big Bad Wolf, since Chaquico founded the band immediately after leaving Starship, but for only one album, "Big Bad Wolf" before disbanding Big Bad Wolf and launching his solo career. Even if it should follow "A Thousand Pictures," what I think you are saying is: they both need articles to be included in the infobox, is that correct? So, do you think I should remove them from the infobox and get busy writing the articles before I put them in? Thanks for your help, it's nice to hear from you! Cheryl Fullerton (talk) 23:20, 24 October 2019 (UTC) Cheryl Fullerton[reply]

Hi Cheryl Fullerton -- I think I'm saying these things:
  • I think you can consider "Big Bad Wolf" to be a Chaquico album (as opposed to only a Big Bad Wolf album). For instance, "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" is shown as Eric Clapton's next album on this page.
  • But the "Big Bad Wolf" album should have a date of 1998, not 1991. That means it's currently in the wrong place in this Acoustic Highway article, because you have it as an album before Acoustic Highway. Since 1998 is after Acoustic Planet, it should not be in Acoustic Highway's infobox at all. And since 1998 is also after A Thousand Pictures, it should not be in Acoustic Planet's infobox at all.
  • So I think that the Big Bad Wolf album is in all the right places right now, because it's listed in Chaquico's discography in the article about him.
  • But if you are able to make an article about A Thousand Pictures (if you can find reliable sources), then we could include Big Bad Wolf as the "next" album in that article's infobox.

Does that make sense? -- Cloud atlas (talk) 16:56, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cloud atlas Thanks for your help! Always appreciated. I took Big Bad Wolf out of the infobox and will be researching articles for "A Thousand Pictures" soon. I'll run a draft by you when it's ready. Thanks!Cheryl Fullerton (talk) 21:28, 2 November 2019 (UTC)Cheryl Fullerton[reply]
