Age range[edit]

Well, because acritarchs are not a specific biological taxon, but rather a group of fossils with unknown affinities. Anything that is organic-walled and falls within the criteria is an acritarch even today. I can think of examples that falls within that category but as soon as it is properly identified it ceases to be an acritarch. Therefore it is impossible to who they are now, they can still be anything. Hmmm, i dont think it is easy to explain this...someone else try please?

The diversity section does not actually talk about the diversity of the subject matter, it just discusses the diversity of fossils as they relate to predation, I suggest a change in the heading —Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.186.145.175 (talk) 01:42, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Algaebase as potential source[edit]

Algabase has listings of Acritarch. There are a list of genera with family incertae sedis^[1] and also family Ooidiaceae with three genera^[2] This might be useful to update the article.

It appears that our list comes from Fossilid.info. Can you tell if AlgaeBase has a different list? ~~Also just because of family incertae sedis, does not mean it is an Acritarch. A similar classification may happen with environmental DNA, or low quality preservation.~~ Actually it is Family: Acritarcha familia incertae sedis. Algaebase has a lot of genera that aren't in the Wikipedia article. The current Fossilid.info also has quite a few genera not in the article list, presumably due to updates. The article contains about 7 genera not in Fossilid.info, which might be because they have been removed from Fossilid or because editors have added to the list without proper sourcing (this happens too often). — Jts1882 | talk 10:34, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
