Betly[edit]

The statement "On 21 August 1836 she portrayed the title role in the premiere of Donizetti's Betly at the Teatro Nuovo in Naples" appears to be incorrect: according to Ashbrook (1982), p. 109, the title role in the premiere of Betly was portrayed by Adelaide Toldi. See also Großes Sängerlexikon, Vol. 4, p. 4731 (note that the premiere year of Betly there contains a typo: it should be 1836 instead of 1838). There is no doubt that Toldi sang Betly at some point in her career: see the Ricordi score for the "Cavatina In questo semplice modesto asilo eseguita dalla Signora Toldi".

  • Good catch. I'm inclined to agree. Adelaide Giulia Toldi is also listed as the role creator in this almanac. Best.4meter4 (talk) 21:03, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Crescentini[edit]

If we are to believe this memoir from 1832, Tosi studied with Girolamo Crescentini after she made her debut at La Scala, not before. Given general scarcity of sources on Tosi, I see no reason to reject this statement. I decided to accordingly modify the sentence "Born in Milan, Tosi studied with Girolamo Crescentini before making her professional debut in her native city in 1821".
