December 2007[edit]

I'm going to develop the article over the next few days, so please don't overreact, I just wanted it online for now, I am going to clean it up and make it wiki standard (hopefully above standard). ;) —Preceding unsigned comment added by ThebetterRob (talkcontribs) 20:51, December 2, 2007

December 2008[edit]

Tried to clean-up as much as possible. Still needs expert attention.--Funandtrvl (talk) 16:48, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Purpose of article[edit]

At the moment the article appears as a bit of a mess just a rambling of slightly related subjects. Is this describing the current aerospace industry or is it also meant to provide some history. Not sure what a random sampling of first flights does for the article either. Anybody any ideas? MilborneOne (talk) 18:33, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I stumbled on this article a few weeks ago and saw that it contained some out of date information, had quite a few issues and had virtually no other articles linked to it and was as a result getting very few hits.
Since I feel that this is an important topic I have made an effort to update and improve the article, although this is not an area of expertise for me and this has limited what I am able to do. As I see it the purpose of the article should be, as with articles such as Automotive industry in the United Kingdom or Automobile industry in China, to provide a concise overview of the industry including its history, current state and economic impact, important products and companies.
I agree that the list of first flights is not appropriate. In my view this should be changed into a prose description of the history of the industry, with some of the first flight details being woven into the text as appropriate.
I have started trying to improve the 'Major participants' section but in my view this requires more work. The 'Current developments' section contains a lot of interesting and useful information but appears to need some updating.
On a minor point I see that you have moved Thales from the overseas to the domestic section of the paragraph in the lead on major participants. As I wrote this list I was looking at the companies from the perspective of the location of the ultimate parent companies headquarters and registered office. Although Thales's UK subsidiaries are registered in the UK they are wholly-owned by the French parent company. Rangoon11 (talk) 18:55, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK I will see what I can add to the article to improve it but it may not happen for a few weeks. Although part of the Thales Group Thales UK is considered a British company as it was previously Racal and a legacy of other long-term British electronic companies. Thales UK is registered at Weybridge, Surrey. MilborneOne (talk) 19:10, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It would be great if you could as I see from your user page that you have a massive expertise in the area.
Re Thales, would you be happy with the following wording 'Thales Group (including its UK-headquartered subsidiaries Thales Air Defence and Thales Optronics)' and leaving Thales Group described as an overseas company?Rangoon11 (talk) 19:16, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Probably OK for now but perhaps UK-based rather than headquartered. Other UK based aerospace divisions also include Thales Avionics who produce in-flight-entertainment. MilborneOne (talk) 20:03, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page[edit]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Below is a list of links that were found on the main page:

Triggered by \baerospace-technology\.com\b on the local blacklist
