Citation: 1984 translation took liberties?[edit]

Do we have anyone's word besides Hullot-Kentor's for the claim that the previous translation "took liberties"? I question his neutrality (and his competence in matters of German translation for that matter).91.66.72.133 (talk) 12:19, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Having recently inspected both Lenhardt's 1984 translation and Hullot-Kentor's 1997 translation, I can see why the latter was commissioned: Lenhardt certainly plays fast and loose with Adorno's German text; his translation is not usable for academic work. Hullot-Kentor meanwhile is unnecessarily stilted and often fails to render German idioms appropriately (or understandably). Now how to find references that will allow us to say all of this in the article? Wegesrand (talk) 16:29, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
