Distinguishing "affective" and "emotional" design[edit]

The article can be improved by clarifying the term affective design and its connection to emotional design. The definition given in the lead is implied to be a subcategory of emotional design, specifically related to user interfaces that "process" and "adapt" or "respond to" user emotions, rather than simply being designed to elicit certain emotions. This is not substantiated by sources in the Background and Aims of the article, which uses a broader definition that encompasses emotional design as elaborated by Don Norman. However, it is supported in the Applications section where the only examples are those that "respond to" user emotions.

Depending on its definition, the Background and Aims sections might need to be re-written to reflect the narrower meaning of affective design. Otherwise, the Applications section should be expanded to reflect the broader meaning. Markbythepark (talk) 02:04, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
