Fair use rationale for Image:Agiosdimitrios2.gif[edit]

Image:Agiosdimitrios2.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Discussion[edit]

Detailed discussion belongs below, concise arguments above.

At the top of this section there is a clear if implicit instruction to read the article titles policy before contributing here. In the requested moves instructions there is a clear and explicit request to read it before raising an RM.

But there seems a need to clarify these instructions. So far, this request and its support seems entirely based on contributors' own opinions as to what is correct. This is relevant but doesn't carry enough weight on its own to justify a move. Please read the policy if you have not already done so, and relate arguments to it. Consensus can change and it may be that a move is performed to comply with WP:IAR, also a policy you will note. But before doing this we need to at least look at the current article title policy and make a case for disregarding it in this instance. Andrewa (talk) 17:30, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There is no reason for the use of abbreviation Ag. for the Greek word Agios. --Odythal (talk) 17:57, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Is that based on WP:AT or is it still just your personal opinion? Andrewa (talk) 04:52, 19 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It is based on WP:AT# Article title format: Avoid ambiguous abbreviations. This abbreviation (Ag. about Agios) is unknown or not so known so that be used in article titles. For example, we would never use the title Cr. Palace F.C for Crystal Palace F.C.--Odythal (talk) 14:24, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Very good point. I think you mean WP:AT#Article title format (without the blank). That reads in part ...should be avoided unless the subject is known primarily by its abbreviation and that abbreviation is primarily associated with the subject (my emphasis). That's clearly not the case here, Ag has many associations and I'd guess the primary one is silver. Progress!
And I hope you also take my point... the case up until now has been at odds with WP:AT. Andrewa (talk) 04:10, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
